Having s light problem with someones pc.

When he turned hes PC on nothing was coming up on the screen, the problem was that the 12v 4 pin connector wasent connected.

Now thats fixed, the computer boots and everything but now the CPU Fan isn't spinning. Any ideas.

Eek a roonies  If it's an Intel cpu I don't think it'll harm the cpu. I think it'll shut itself down automatically. On the boards I have when the HSF is not connected (I'm VERY careful to connect it) they won't boot at all or for that matter I don't think they'll do anything (ie fans spinning, general activity humming, etc). I have to shut power off on the PSU or pull the plug, take the CMOS battery out, wait a couple of minutes, then put everything back to normal and everything is OK. The fan may just be blocked with a wire or something or it could just be too dirty to work?

Is the computer booting up and running okay? Can you get into the CMOS setup program and if so what is the reported CPU temperature?

If you could get to the BIOS setup screen, which obviously you can't, you might check the cpu temp. (for what I don't know, with no HS fan I imagine the cpu gets pretty hot)

He said the problem with nothing coming up on the screen was caused by the 12v connector not being plugged in, so I assumed by his post that it was now working but the cpu fan wasn't spinning and that is the OP's concern. Perhaps I misunderstood the OP.

A couple of years ago I accidentally pulled the fan header slightly out of the motherboard of a Dell PIII and ran it for about 30 minutes before I realized the CPU fan wasn't spinning and pushed the header back into the motherboard. It was, and still is, running fine to this day.

Sorted it :)

He went into the BIOS then set FAN Speed Control Method to Legacy and FAN Speed Control Mode to Voltage.

Thanks again guys.

I'm sorry benbaked, I read that and thought he was talking about the 4 pin connector on the fan. I'm the one with the reading and understanding problem not you :bang head , you were right
