I'm building a new system and was looking into getting an 8800 GTS. I was just wondering if there has been anything heard about 8800 prices possibly dropping with the upcomming release of ATI's r600 GPU?
Are you kidding? With all the crap that's been posted about the R600 and how it does not live up to it's hype? nVidia would lower prices if they were scared. They have nothing to worry about as of yet and possibly into the future. The 8900 and 9000 series will kick any ATi offerings up and down the block for years to come. I think the fact that they just released an overclocked 8800 for almost $900 should tell you something.

I'm still not convinced the benchmarks we were shown are going to be the same ones we see when r600 actually comes to market. There is still time to tweak things. But if the same results occur after it's release then I also don't see Nvidia lowering prices...unless r600 is incredibly affordable.
Judging from the benchmarks we have seen so far I don't think the prices will drop that much.

The XT > GTS. Prices will fall, its just a matter of how much?
