when the last time you cleaned out the stock cooler? back in my 6800 days before i went to the vf700-cu from zalman i had a temp prob once - ended up being the heatsink was just full of dust. nothing a can of air can't fix!

i would look into that before i spent moneyz on a aftermarket cooler. espe if your not overclocking.

Or maybe "ghetto" it..
This little trick lowered my temps quite a bit. Plus I didn't have to remove the video card heatsink.

When I had a 68gt I went with aftermarket cooling, It was a Leadtek card, With their H.S/fan I had idle temps of around 55° and load temps in the low 70's, Put a Zalman 77cu and idle temp fell to 48-49° and load temps into the low 60's.
I would agree with ChinStrap's post though, Clean it up, Change the T.I.M. if it's been awhile, Especially if the card still has the preapplied T.I.M. from XFX. If your not O.C.ing the card, Really probably no need to upgrade the cooling,

yeah but i would like to oc the card in a few weeks and i see it being out of the question with my temps

If you clean it and use new tim, then temps will drop.
Now you can OC your card.

If your going to O.C. quite a bit I would go with aftermarket cooling, I know on my Xfx 68nu it came with a pretty weak stock H.S./fan. The aforementioned Zalman 77cu is a good choice along with the Arctic Cooler silencer, It can be very difficult to find the version of the silencer that fits the 68 series cards these days, I do know they have the accelero that works and they have gotten pretty good reviews.

After doing a little checking it looks like Sidewinder has the Silencer 5 that works on the 68gt's.
