i have resently used realtek chipset network cards and i have notice that they use a lot of resources and therefore canot reach the spped they are capable of i have therefore decided to get a better i am considering getting a 3com soho but i am running xp and there seems to be no drivers for xp only and only beta drivers for win2k. can someone confirem whether this driver works with winXP

i have also seen for cheaper price a netgear Netgear FA311 what i am looking for is a fast card with low cpu utilization as my realtek canes my computer at the moment when net traffic is high.

people on cnet seem to like it but i have not had any problems with my reatek 100basetx just want to know whether either of these would outperform 3.2Mbytes sec transfer speed that i have achieved using FTP eventhough one end will still have a realtek. I have a 8 port netgear fast ethernet switch and would like any useful sugestions as to what nics would be best for my system.

ps i ahve a tbird1.4Ghz and 460Megs of ram just for your knowledge but the other ends are only pentium2's or worse therefore would it advatageus to install the better cards in the cr@p computers?

I think you will be happy with 3com or even intel

I am plainning to connect the two computer to share one internet connection (56k). The question is, do I need to get a hub or anything if I use the Windows Internet Connection Sharing, or do I just have a RJ45 cable run from one NIC card on one computer to the others? thanks

PS: I'll do the shopping tomorrow for this.

Well the easier way would probably to use a router, rather than a hub. The router basically takes your one ip address and splits it between the ports with evenly distributed bandwidth. :D

I have a D-Link DFE-530TX+ that cost about $15 at Best Buy and it works great.

my 3com does well for overclocking, but it was a lot more money
