Mobile GPUs separately? From my investigations, I am going to speculate that they do not which is rather depressing. :(

Most laptops can not have gfx card upgrated. Other like dell 9300/9400 gfx can be upgrated to certain extend. I am pretty sure if laptop comes without gfx, just intergrated card, that gfx can not be upgrated even same models have dedicated gfx.

Well, I'm simply investigating the possibility of putting together a laptop from a barebones kit. I would like to have a dedicated GPU, but if it can't be done...I guess at the least it saves me some money. I'm sure there are other ways to build a laptop, but I'm just being lazy and searching for the easy way out.

Well, certainly they sell them, people do pay a substantial amount of money sometimes to have the GPU chip on their laptops mainboard unsoldered and have a new one put in it's place. So these mom and pop shops that do this must be getting those GPU's from somewhere. But exactly where, I don't know.

The easy way out is to buy a laptop that uses an actual card inside for the graphics and then just buy better video card that the laptop supports. That's the lazy, easiest way of doing it.

Good luck,.

You cant just unsolder a chip and put in a new one. There is a lot more to it. That is a false information.

some laptops use a mini slot to allow gpu changing. you have to make sure the laptop you get if in barebones comes with this slot. its really hard to tell, many hi-end dells that offer GPU choices use this slot. irc its a pci-e but in pin form.
