Well I got my xp 1600 in the mail today, and I want to unlock it. I am wondering is there any damage I can do to the CPU if I mess up while connecting the l1 bridges? Let's say some are connected and some aren't and I power it up, or lets say some are are connected to pins they shouldn't be, is there any harm here? Or would I just completely remove what I have done and the CPU would return to normal.

Just a little concerned..

yep, depending on what you do, you could harm it. You could connect the wrong bridges, not seal the trench between the bridges and short it out...

Yes!.I tried unlocking mine yesterday and didn't even get to the point of connecting them and it's dead already. My best and most exspensive cpu too.:( What I did was while scraping off the excess glue,I scraped too hard(not to hard but obviously hard enough)and exposed some metal underneath between L1's and L3's that must have shorted the cpu.

Flounder is right.

The default multiplier of 10.5 on the 1600 is pretty decent as at 1700mhz your fsb will be at 162mhz.

Unless you want to shoot for a really high fsb the default 10.5 may be fine for you.
