even if I can get a bigger hard drive for pennies I'm not ready to move to flac. It looks like mp3 is old and on the ropes. So which is better?

Darn...not ready to move to FLAC yet. AAC is an Apple codec that only plays through iTunes and Foobar (somebody correct me if Im wrong). I still use mp3s if space is an issue, usually LAME high quality VBR does the trick. Most times I go with FLAC since I do have plenty of space as of now.

I can play and encode aac in winamp. I like ogg cause it seem to save more of the audio then mp3. The file size are in the teens which is kool with me. I hate itunes and don't really like foobar, but do like jet audio. They just came out with verison 7 so really happy. So what about monkey audio and tta files. Are they good options as well?

Monkeys audio is pretty nice, but I think you need to install the codec for it to work on alot of players. Some of my music is in the .ape format, and sounds pretty darn good. A properly encoded LAME file in high quality VBR is pretty hard to beat...alot of the times I cant tell the difference between VBR and FLAC. Now if we were talking about CBR 192kb, the difference between that and FLAC is night and day, providing you have good enough equipment (computer speakers dont cut it).
