...regarding smack-talk:
The following is strictly my own opinion, and although I welcome any and all to comment, it is not my desire to debate the merits of my perspective. For starters, I'm not here to point fingers or pass judgment what-so-ever; just want to highlight some of the factors that lead to having a team member suspended, and perhaps more than just a couple fellow folders between "our" team and "their" team that got their feelings stepped on.
Everyone has their own standards by which they live and interact with other people; groupings of people generally share those standards as a social group. I think it's real safe to say that the animosity between some Team 32 members and MPC monkey members resulted from the difference in standards. Perhaps what is needed is a set of ground rules, agreed upon by both teams, so that future competitions don't get soured by such occurrences.

Gary hit it on the head when he said that each forum has its own "culture". MPC and ocforums do and run things a little differently, and I think that's awesome. Personally, I LOVE the smacktalking; I think it really helped spice up the challenge, and I've been having a blast as well as many others. For me, the MPC monkeys invading our forum was sorta reminiscent of the nWo invading WCW back in the mid-90s, okay, I'm a wrasslin' nut I know.
I've been enjoying both smacktalk threads (as well as all the intra-ocforums smacktalk threads that we've had with each other in recent months). Personal attacks and flamings are of course a big no-no at practically any forum, but people just gotta remember that the person insulting you is just somebody sitting behind a keyboard that you've probably never met face to face, and try not to take it seriously. I thought that DreadedOne509's apology in post #486 of the CC thread was sincere, at least that's how it came across to me. That should've been the end of the squabble, unfortunately it wasn't, and I'm not surprised that the ban-hammer appeared this morning. I hope these events don't sour jws2346, I think he is a valued member of Team 32 as well as these forums. I enjoy folding with all of you, including the MaxPC folks as well. Ya'll alright in my book.
Back to the challenge and the smacktalk, I CAN'T WAIT for the rubber-match next year! We will all have quads by then...properly overclocked quads. :D
...and speaking of the smacktalk... the baked wants to know where silent_bob is! where has the bob been!? the baked has seen nothing NOTHING NOTHING since he rolled over you last Saturday morning before the challenge started. silent_bob you may have retaken the lead for now but the baked is not just some roody-poo candy ass that's gonna let you reach rank #150 before him, no no no no NO...once the maximum_monkeys finally fall, once that happens the baked GUARANDAMNTEES that he and HE ALONE will be perched atop silent_bob at #150...and beyond that.

I did not see Gary's post, but looks to be spot on with what I'm saying.

Unfortunately, I missed that one too; being on-the-job sure can impair proper attention to matters at hand. I looked up DreadedOne509's apology in post #486...fair enough, looks sincere to me.

I think things got way outta hand in that other thread, and maybe a break will help cool things off a bit. There are things that should be kept to ones self, there are many posts that I have typed, but not posted. We all have to think about who else may be involved when we post something. I don't think I have ever seen a thread where only 2 people have chimed in. We all need to be considerate of eachother, and show a little bit of maturity. These are the things that really attracted me here in the first place. I had looked around other forums before my first post here, and as much as it really didn't bother me, there are other ways to get your point across. Also, if you have a problem with someone here, don't pay any attention to their posts. If they say something that is out of line, there are other ways to deal with it. There is no need for name calling, bickering, or anything else that might disrupt the flow of these forums. That is why we have the Report Abuse button, and Private Messages. I would much rather have someone send me a PM, as long as the subject is civil. I would hope that if I were to say something out of line, that someone would PM me and let me know that it was offensive, rather than starting a large bickering match in a thread.

I've seen them on some other forums, but I'll be darned if I see it here...

It is the golden exclamation point right below the avatars. I think when you mouse over it it says something like report bad post. I haven't had to ever use it, but I know its there.

Thats rude and humiliating - to ban someone publicly...

I also don't agree with him banning JWS publicly like that, but I think he did that to let everyone else in the thread know that he was not going to put up with any more. I would have much rather him have done it by PM, but whats done is done, and I am sure he had his reasons. I am not here to argue with anyone, and do not disagree with David's decision, but I do feel that it could have been handled differently.

I'm not sure what the norm is, haven't seen too many bannings on the forums I frequent.

I've been knowing David for quite a while here on the forums and I am sure there was something else going on more than what is publicly accessible. And you have to admit that JWS's last couple of posts were highly inflamatory too, posted in public. So don't just jump to the assumption that something just crawled up David's butt and he started to persecute JWS.
I am not pointing a finger at JWS either. The fact is that none of us know all the facts of what went on so there is no reason for us to jump to some kind of conclusion. The fact of the matter is that for whatever reason, JWS is banned for 3 days only, not permanently. He will be welcomed back by his fellow team mates (including me) and I hope that everything goes smoothly for him afterwards. As far as David carrying a grudge or something; I don't think that will happen. He is a better man than that.
Note that these are strictly my views only and don't reflect anything other than my view alone. And I hope that JWS doesn't get mad and leave permanently over this too as he is a fine team mate to have here and is an asset to this team and these forums.
And with this said, let's fold on and make monkeyshines of those MPC monkeys. :D

Yes, we've been knowing him since he was about, what? 15 years old? He's 21 now.
I would just as soon keep this to PM's, I considered myself pretty close to JW and still do.
I think I and everyone else would completly forget what happened after ...and if, JW decides to come back.
Starting a thread about it is the last thing I would want(If it was me being banned), maybe some personal IM's or e- mails of encouragement to him instead. (A lot of you may have already sent them.)
Mods don't Ban folks here, we all know the rules and decide to get ourselves banned.
I posted and deleted at least two posts myself because I thought they were over the line, one was quite funny it was that Intel Conan vid where Conan looks in the Microscope and sees two monkeys doing it....I posted it and said this is what we are doing to Max pc . Then deleted the post becauase it may heve been funny but also may have been inappropriate.
This isn't a democracy. We all know that we don't get to be judged by our peers here, it just doesn't work that way.
I would hope JW just comes back and we can all put it behind us and have things go on like they have been before the Challenge.
Sorry for the thread killer its just IMHO.

That about sums it up for me too.
+ tim's original post and garynators post in the challenge thread.
I hope to see jws back soon :)
