I want to start playing Everquest (an online role playing game). I am trying decided what to buy.
Do i want the original game and the newest add-on
or
The Triology and newest add-on
After I get the games, I have to talk my parents into paying the online fee.

Beware, you start playing that, and we may never see you here again...There is a reason it is called "EverCrack".
Honest to god I've seen people get fired at work because of EverQuest! They were staying up all night playing, falling asleep at work because of it. Sometimes even calling in sick!
Pretty pathetic I know but I've seen it happen. I myself REFUSE to pay for a game. Then pay a monthly fee to play it. NO WAY. There's way to many offline and Online games that don't cost anything that I can play. Besides I'm not much of a role game playing person anyway.
If you just have to throw your life away I'd get the trilogy set first because it's cheaper and has lower system requirements....AFTER you're addicted then you'll willingly pay the extra money for the expansion.
Personally I wouldn't do it though....EQ took 2 years of my life :)

Bah...nothing is bad for you, taken in moderation. You only hear about the bad side of things, I'll tell you about my side.
I started playing EQ about 4 months after release. So far, I had only played FPS and RTS games, was in a TF clan, played Starcraft on non-TF days...and then some of my clan mates said, Hey Lumm, you gotta come play EQ with us!
Well, I wanted to, but man, first of all, I'm not going to buy a game, and then pay to play it. Not to mention, all the RPG's I tried I couldn't stand...the Ultima's...etc, etc...
But, with a free month, I figured what the heck. Even got one of my friends to promise to pay for the game if I quit after the first month...heh. Let's just say, I don't miss the $50 every 6 months...not at all. :D
I just haven't played much of anything else since. I got a new sound card, and Deus Ex came with it...I played a few levels of it. Got Red Faction, I finished it, but using God mode towards the end, I just wanted to get back to EQ.
Anyway, I'm a 32 year old with a wife, and a full time job. Yes, I have stayed up too late playing on occassion, and while I have called in sick, and then played EQ, I called in because I was sick, and played EQ for something to do. Of course, on days when the wife won't be home when I get home from work, this is a pretty accurate description of my commute home: :burn:
I've been playing it a long time, but I don't get a lot of time to play. My highest level char is 46. I still enjoy EQ. No other game I've bought or tried in 2 years has caught my imagination, or interest like EQ has.
Get the trilogy, and try it out. It's big draw, for me, is the social aspect. I look forward to adventuring with the friends I've made within EQ. Yes, sometimes, it get's old. There are very tedious things in the game. Camping creatures for hours on end, the death penalty, searching for a group...but there are many, many things that are fun and exciting, nearly every time I fire the game up.
Argh..I've rambled...heh.
