Hy!

I have a problem connecting using my 56k USB Trust Modem on win XP.
I have installed it properly using Win2k drivers from trust.com and under the properties it shows that the device is working properly etc.
The thing is, the modem dials the ISP's number ( which I know for shure by picking up the phone) , I hear that high pitched tone followed by other noise, and after a while message appears such as " Error 678 , the remote computer didn't respond etc " or " the line is busy" . I know that the problem isn't in ISP 'cos I didn't have problems connecting on WinME , and I also tried with several other ISPs.
I also tried with modem helper under the modem properties with safe modes 1 and 2 but the problem remains.
any suggestions?!,
Edin

This is a very common error with winxp especialy with dsl connections. this is from a troubleshooter where I work.

Error 678

1. Is there a handshake? If not the phone number is probably wrong in some way. Are they trying to turn off call waiting the wrong way for their telco? Do they have call waiting? Do they have pulse but are trying to dial tone? Etc...

2. If there is a handshake check their connectoid and network settings. If all looks good it is probably a handshake error. Make sure the correct modem is selected and setup.

3. Try upgrading the firmware. To get them on the net in the meantime try lowering the fifo buffers, setting the max speed to 57600, and adding an init string. Try an init that will retain v90 first, but if they just want to get on and download their drivers try setting v34. Uninstalling and reinstalling the modem can sometimes help as well.

We have a lot of trouble with usb modems and winxp.
