2GB Vs 4GB ?? ehlp please!!

i am going to build a new pc with this spec:
CPU - £140 intel e6600
mobo - £140 Asus P5N32-E SLI NF680i SLI
GPU - £190 320MB 8800gts
RAM - £175 4X1GB DDR6400 Corsair dominator
Fans - £7 2Xcheap akasa quiet 120mm fans
HDD's - £92 2X 300 Gb Seagate ST3300622AS Barracuda 7200.9, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.0 ms, NCQ
lightscribe DVD burner - £22
total = £766+P&P

all from www.scan.co.uk

already have: asetek xtreme pump, antartica waterblock, single (120mm rad), xclio a380 case (yes the one with TWO 25CM fans!! ) and 750W xclio PSU (bought together)

it is going to have vista, be used for gaming, working and general use.



i was wondering what the differences of having 2GB ram was to having 4GB RAM? and is it better having 4X1GB RAM as apposed to having 2X2GB RAM?

I would say stick with 2gb for now, your going to have a heard time filling it up now. In the future you may want more, so you can always upgrade later.

I just put 4gb in my rig and the only thing I noticed was in Supreme Commander, when putting unit in formation, it was a little smoother. I would say 2gigs as well unless you have a specific need for it.

How many .... units did you have :O to fill up more gigs of RAM?

Right now im using 4 gigs of ram and haven't hit 100% ram usage yet. CS:S with everything maxed @ 1680 x 1050 and I barely hit 50% CPU with Vista Ultimate x64 running in the background. With 3 gigs I hit around 66% at highest. I'll try Stalker later and see how that runs on 4 gigs but I'm more then happy right now with my setup. Just need an 8800 and some overclocking on my CPU ^_^.

Thats because you have a dual core, it will never go to 100% in that game if you have a dual core...
