Right now I run a Classic K7 950. I'm doing a project on watercooling and when I am done I would like to watercool my 950.
But I'm deathly afraid about ruining my chip. So I was debating to buy a backup.
I'm havin a hard time tryin to find the classic 950mhz athlon.
If anyone knows where I can get one, PLEASE POST!!!
The reason I'm not looking at Thunderbird is because I've heard about massive compatibility problems, and also that they just plain suck.
So whats the better way to go?
Classic Athlon
or Thunderbird
Thanks!

I have a t-bird 750 and a slot A 650...
the t-bird has internal cache at 2x the speed...
internal cache means less to cool on the same size coldplate...
I've got 1ghz+ outta my tbird... I didn't have any issues with it either...
and brought my 3mark2k1 score up 800 points...
why not got tbird?

check my sig for o/c on my slot a "classic" i aslo got it up to 1 ghz (10x100) but better performance at 990. i did all the mods by moving resistors manually on the pcb, i managed to get quite almost every available multiplier (excluding 10.5) working quite well on an old gigabyte board, right up till i decided to stick with clock mult of 9 and chiped the core as i was putting the heatplate back on. if you don't mind ebay you can find them there. i've seen quite a few from 650 to 950 latlely and even one "classic" 1000. i'll be looking for another just for the pure o/c fun of it. slot a's overclock very well if you can use a lower cache divider. i believe that the slot-a t-birds are good o/c chips as well so i wouldn't hesitate to get one of those either. (wonder what i could do with a 950 slot-a t-bird:D )
GOOD LUCK!!

I recently bought it as well as an Abit KA7-100...

and I've scored some retatively high sandra scores on this board...
478/549...
right now I'm in the midst of switching over to water cooling if I can..., see if that helps me anymore...
