MMM intresting... the E4500 with a 11x multi.... and i LOVE how intel realized that thier c2d's clock so good and literally took my e6600 and made the fsb automatically strap to 333 giving a 3ghz clock.

and q6600 @ 266 bucks... **** i remember when i paid 340 for my E6600

I thought this wasn't happening until late 2007? Sooner the better (minus the fact that I would have waited another month as I just bought a e6320 last week - my 3rd C2D :) )

Damn, I just bought an E6600 on the last price cut and now I want the Q6600 on the next price cut. It is amazing how Intel is marketing the Dual and Quad Cores. In my case, they have sold me an E6600 and a soon to purchase a Q6600 this year alone. Wow, have I been suckered?

that quad price is going to give amd a good punch in the nuts if they have super high prices...

they are providing awesome products at great prices, no one is pushing you to go quad core :)

Wow, I might look at the E6850, only 266....or the Q6600...OMG! Might get both...

EDIT: WHOA WHOA WHOA....wait...is that the Extreme Edition(6850)?!?! If that is completely unlocked, I know what I'm getting...

EDIT2: NVM, the extreme editions start with "x"...im retarted...lol, I'm getting me a quad.

I paid about the same for mine... I'll have to keep it of course... Damn. Looks like I'll have two different systems. Maybe I'll remodel my office when I get back to Chicago. This will give me a good excuse to have an 8800GTS in one machine and the Gigabyte 8600GTS... which I really want... in another.

Quad Core in one and 3.654ghz E6400 in the other.

I was just getting ready to upgrade to an E6700 but I think I'm gonna wait and see what happens in June....it looks like it just might be worth the wait.

Why... umm... SURE I do...

Heh heh... That's what we're here for right? We're OVERCLOCKERS...

I got tired of my traditional water pump so I hooked a nozzle up to my bathtub.

Who cares! I can drop a Q6600 into my DS3! Maybe I won't need two computers... I can mix and match... Maybe tuesdays I wanna be QuadCore... Thursday I just want a pair... Hell it's only $266!

AMD better bring on "The Phantom" or whatever the hell they've got coming quick... before Intel starts selling C2Ds for twenty bucks as their "low end" series. Then it just won't matter...

True story. I'm with Rainless, for that price I'll get a 1/2 decent one now, and grab myself a quad MONTHS ahead of when I thought I would. Which of course is totally sweet, as I'll be able to kick SupCom's butt, finally....

nookuwn may be right, what happens when they bankrupt AMD? VIA desktop procs? Transmeta dual cores?

Is there any real application for having a Quad? Nothing uses that many core :\

Something tells me that about two weeks after AMD declares chapter 9, Intel will declare netburst 2.0, codenamed "you're screwed now"

I'm a sucker, so i'll jump on one of those q6600's, but i'm dearly afraid of what's going to happen to AMD. Intel without AMD is like me without ADD medication; it works harder and faster than the competition, but in the end all you get is a lot of hot air.

680i's support 1333's right? So these 6*50's should all work no problem?

I'm hoping the 45nm's have support on the 680i's too or else i'm going to have a tough time planning ahead with a computer.

CAD and 3D Rendering. My question is this: E6850 vs. Q6600, which is the better buy for $266?

well 2 vs 4 so...the quad would win if in 3d rendering or cad...

well 2 vs 4 so...the quad would win if in 3d rendering or cad...I see no reason to get the 6850, they both have 2mb cache per core, have the same multiplier and are the same price.

you miss read .... he asked about a quad core vs a dual core.... E is dual, Q is quad... even with the higher fsb the only part it would be stronger in is gaming and some math calcs that are not multi threaded. the quad would win at that price point with all multi threaded apps.

the qaud will run allot hotter and prolly wont oc as much

Yeah but you also get twice as much power (roughly) for the same OC than you do with the dual core. When I get my Q6600 I will probably not be able to hit 3.4GHz with it like with my E4300 but even at 3.0GHz it will smoke my 3.4GHz C2D. My thesis code which is multithreaded is going to LOVE this quad.

Is there any real application for having a Quad? Nothing uses that many core :\Well, my non-Windows OS will take advantage of as many processors/cores as I give it. ;) Compiling will especially get a wonderful boost, but even daily activities will be spread across the multiple cores. Doesn't Windows do that too?

Mobious
05-16-07, 02:00 PM
I personally would like to O/C the snott out of whatever I get (tossing an Ultra-120 eXtreme on there after lapping them both and putting on some MX-1), and would like to see the best all around performance, not theoretical. I would think the higher-clocking (and prolly better O/C'ing) E6850 would be better all around (not to mention a lot cooler) than the Q6600 which can't be fully utilized just yet. I do use CAD, but I gotta say I think the dual might see close to (if not on par) performance (up or down on both sides) except in CAD. Clock it up, and who knows. We'll just have to wait and see what happens when it comes out.

4 2.2L Honda S2000 V-Tech's, or 2 Ferrari F430 V8s? That's more to scale.

in this case you would be better off with the E6420 and waiting for quads to drop. atm the E6420 is $189 at newegg and ocs slightly better then the E6600.

anyone know about the e2140 and e2160 coming out around junish? dual core for less than $100, can't complain.

- Pentium E2140 1.6GHz 1024K L2 ( 74$)
- Pentium E2160 1.8GHz 1024K L2 ( 84$)

and some OC results on the e2140, 120% oc!

yep, the newest x is the qx6800. the q6700 won't have fully unlocked multipliers however.

So you're telling me that I just paid 2 weeks ago $1100 bucks for my qx6700 thats going to be half price in the price cut? Omg Shoots self lol!

Evilsizer
05-17-07, 06:13 PM
so intel must have had a lot of dud E4300/E6300/E6400 to get these. L2 = allendale core. im not suprised at the oc i mean 1.6v and only 1mb. how ever i would have thought they needed less Voltage to reach those speeds with only 1mb of L2 cache.

well no , the Q6700 like HBB said is not multi unlocked like yours so you have more multis to use when ocing the cpu. thats why you paid the big buck for a QX or X C2D.

hUMANbEATbOX
05-17-07, 06:21 PM
^^ still, for $75, you can't complain. move over 3600+, this will be the new super budget cpu. :D

from what i remember seeing ther E1xxx and E2xxx are the celeron line. the E1xxx's being just single core's and of course the E2xxx's being duals. they are expanding the lower "celeron" line to include lowend dual cores. some lower end E1xxx's will have just 512kb of L2
