View Full Version : Need quiet but good HSF and PSU

I'm currently using the 300W PSU that came with my case (Suntek, not great) and a really **** coolermaster fan on my CPU. I'm getting temps of up to 65C on the CPU (1.4ghz athlon) so I reckon I'd better upgrade. The whole thing is also REALLY loud at the moment.
I'm looking at getting an Enermax PSU, and either a Zalman flower cooler or (more likely) an Arkua Thermoturbo (thermoengine with copper core and delta fan). The thermoturbo claims to be 29-35dbA, which sounds quiet, and it's cheaper and easier to get hold of than the Zalman. As for PSU, I reckon I need 350W but most of all I need it to be quieter. What do you all think I should get?

Anything with a delta that says it's 35dBA is lying. Deltas are not quiet fans.

Having looked around, I'm deciding to go with the Enermax, but I'm still not sure about a CPU HSF.
I quite like the look of the Zalman flower but It's pretty expensive and hard to get hold of.
I just got a Glaciator 2. I had a Cak 38 with a delta screamer. No mmore delta scream:D and the Glaciator is doing a better job cooling. I upped my fsb up to 140 turned on folding and let it go all night to warm it in. Woke up to a nice 44 degrees. I couldn't get that at Idle with the cak38. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I found a shop that sells those here in the UK, but they're pretty expensive. You think I should be able to OC with it (I've got some arctic silver in waiting too).
It'lls cost me £96 (with tax and delivery) for that and an enermax 350W
That's a lot. I really wish I'd just got a decent PSU and case when I built my pc, I've spent 20 quid on fans for the damn thing already.

Get an Sk6, MCX370, or an alpha 8045 and buy a quieter fan instead of the stock one maybe? The MCX370's Pabst fan that it comes with is considered moderate, and using it right now it doesn't really bother me at all; I can't even really hear it. All I can hear out of my like 8 fans, is my 120 puttin' along :D

I reckon that'll cost a lot, especially here in the UK.
I just want something reasonably priced, that is pretty quiet and efficient.
I just want temps of below 50 (load) without overclocking on my 1.4 Tbird. At the moment I get up to 65 with a really crap coolermaster HSF, with arctic silver (and an accidentally scratched bottom).
OOH I like the looks of the Dragon Orb 3 (low noise version).
And the Volcano. I might just buy something loud that gets good reviews and see what happens when I 7V it.
Taisol copper insert jobbie looks pretty good for the money too.
If anyone can be bothered to do this for me, my options are from
http://www.dabs.com
http://www.overclockers.co.uk
or http://www.tekheads.co.uk
Plus I'm on a bit of a budget, so no £50 monsters please :)
Thanks in advance!

A fan from www.overclockingstore.co.uk and for about £45 you will have the best cooler!
Quiet to!
Just make sure your board can fit it on!

I just bought a AVC Sunflower for my P4 from 1CoolPC yesterday at like 2 pm. They sent it out 2 hours later! Never heard of em till yesterday. To me they seem to be good business. We'll see the HSF come in.

Certainly better than ebuyer.com who I ordered my 8500 off and my 1900+, after 4 weeks I have mothing, they haven't proccessed my order even, and they don't reply to my emails.
I can't get it from anywhere else as ebuyer are £50 cheaper...
