I've placed a thread regarding my mobo purchase here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=51217) , and my ram purchase here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?threadid=51219)
What I'd like from you guys, is a recommendation on these things from a Seti perspective. If a particular mobo/ram will make a difference. This will not be a standalone Seti box, but will be running Seti, and will be running Seti exclusively while I'm on the road. (Which is Tues-Friday almost every week).
So give me your recommendations guys. I need them;)
I recommend the Epox 8KHA and Corsair PC2400 - but you can't go wrong with crucial either. Obviously with a locked cpu you're aren't going to get to terribly high fsb's.
The Iwil XP333 is available now and is showing some interesting benchmark results with PC2700 DDR so it might be one to consider. The risk being that this MAGiK1 chipset might be poor for running seti as that's the only benchmark that counts in my books. ;)

i agree w/ TC.
i'll recommand a 8KHA+ w/ cruical (for the price). since the CPU is locked and w/ normal air cooling, u ain't gonna see 150+ FSB, 1.8G++ (from the database at oc.com). so, corsair isn't really useful in this purpose.
however, i would take a 1800+ (1.53), cheaper price, as o/c'able as 1900+, but u could hit higher FSB w/ it.
i gotta wait till after x'mas before i could upgrade my T-bird into a 1800+........
good luck!! ;)

Thanks for the replies!
Where would be a good place to pickup corsair ram?
just gonna stick my nose in here for a minute. I was starting to get ticked off at my duron so i bought xp 1700+ with a MSI K7T266-RU Pro2. I want 10 more of these. I bought it on a friends recommendation and i love it. oh i bought 256mb pc2100 also. comparing this to my 968 duron is like the duron compared to a k6/2 450. just amazing. mid 3 hour wu times, but i'm running two clients.

I got mine at www.corecomputers.com
Corsair Cas2 256mb sticks were $72 each in early August. You might be able to find it cheaper now. They 2nd Day Air'ed it to me for free.
(CM64SD256-2400C2) This is what I use -- They are $89 now :(
CM64SD256-2400C2H - with "Heat Spreaders" for $96
Edit: And I would be leary about buying an Epox 8KHA+ mobo. I can't seem to get anything higher than an FSB over 145 without any lockups or soft boots. I have tried WD hdd's and an Adaptec controller card for my Seagate Cheetah SCSI hdd. Both with no luck. I have also tried Crucial PC2100 DDR vs. the Samsung that is in it now, and nothing has helped. I'm just stumped! :( And talk about a flexy board...this thing could bend in a stiff breeze.
I got some good buys on Corsair from www.minotaur.com about 2 months ago. Can't guarantee they're still competitive though.

I found that stick of RAM. It's 96 bucks, but hey I want the best;)
The only other thing I was curious about is that I haven't seen many people using PC2400 in these mobos. Is that because of cost? I mean there is certainly no problem when using PC2400 in an epox or abit kt266a mobo is there?

I've got the 1900+ in my 8k7a+ now, and it's pumping along;). I haven't ran any benches on it today.

Corsair should work fine in any DDR mobo.
If you have some Crucial on hand, try it too. You may not find any difference between the two. And Crucial is a lot cheaper.
btw, how did you get your 1.4@1.7? Did you increase the multiplier, Vmod, or just good cooling?
