View Full Version : OC'ing my bad ram

I have kingston value ram, I'm looking for only a moderate overclock. I set the ram timings to 5-5-5-15 and the timing to 1:1. I upped my FSB by 11%, and once I try to go any further bios wont boot up. Once I exit the bios settings the screen goes black and thats it. I tried upping the core voltage to 1.4V and that doesn't help. Should I up the memory voltage, or loosen my ram timings further?
Setup:
e6300
ASUS PL5D2
kingston value ram 5-5-5-15
8800 GTS superclocked
are intent on overclocking the ram too or just the cpu? if you are only trying to get the cpu frequency up (because that ram is probably not a good OC candidate) i'd try a memory divider. or also, have you tried bumping the memory voltage? (be careful about heat)

sry for the confusion, yah I just want to OC my processor. 299Mhz Seems to be the fastest before this problem occurs. So what should I set the divider at if I want to get the FSB to 333mhz? Also what is a safe increase in the memory voltage. I would rather tweak that first, then mess with the multiplier.
Also I have room before my RAM tops out, its DDR2 667 ram which would mean I could get the FSB to 333mhz without messing with the multiplier, right?

ok I tried increasing the memory voltage to 1.9, that didn't do anything.
Anyone? :(
what's the stock voltage on that memory?
try a divider like 9:8, or 5:4

its 1.8, yeah I changed the different dividers and still nothing. When I change the DRAM frequency, thats changing the devider, right?
I think it might have something to do with these 2 options in the memory timing options:
RAS activate time to precharge:15
DRAM write recovery time: 4
Those are the values its set on now, I have no idea what these are, cause I have heard of changing Tras,Trc, or CDC values. But I cannot find those options in BIOS.
You can go to at least 2V, 2.2V wihout additional cooling.

would it even help, these are below the RAM's stock speeds.
