I just setup a new Conroe system with the P5B Plus but the BIOS freezes every time I try to go into Hardware Monitoring to check my temps. I've clear the CMOS and can get to every other page except that one. Any one have any ideas what is going on here? :bang head

Core 2 Duo E6420
Asus P5B Plus
Crucial BallistiX 2GB PC2-6400

Sometimes it takes like a full minute before the page shows up. If not try updating your BIOS :)

Re-flashing the BIOS seemed to fix it although it does take some time to load.

I also notice the system shuts down then restarts when I change some BIOS settings. Is this supposed to be normal?

Well everytime you hit Save yes it should restart... , but if you are just changing for example, the voltage, or FSB, and it restarts thats different.....

Mine shuts completely off for a second if I go lower on the fsb. I guess it has to reset something as it doesn't do this if I raise the fsb.

Yes, changing some BIOS settings will cause it to shutdown/restart. It needs to refresh itself especially if its a voltage settings that you changed like he said.

Glad you got it sorted. Now start clocking! :D

BTW, :welcome: to the forums

OK cool. I've almost got everything up and running now.

I will be clocking very soon. Just installed my Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme too. That thing is huge and such a pain to install. Temps dropped by 24C (41C vs 65C) at load vs the stock cooler  I still need to get a better fan for it and also a better cooler for my 7950GT.

Did you by any chance check the bottom of the xtreme for flatness before you installed? Just wondering because I've seen where some of them are getting out without the best finish on the contact area. I'm also considering the extreme for myself is why I'm asking.

Yeah, the xtreme finish is not very impressive. Compared to all the Zalman coolers I've had previously, it is actually quite rough on the bottom. Definitely needs some lapping, but for now it is cooling my CPU quite nicely.
