well i've had it a day .couldnt stand not trying to unlock it. so i pulled it back out and with that mcx-462 its a pain trust me.
so i went trying to unlock it.and after 2 hours of fooling with it decided to give up and reinstall.when i did ..."nothing". i almost s***!!! so after 15 minutes of cussing myself pulled it back apart.
cleaned it up again.reapplied and reinstalled... and it booted.
THANK GOD.... moral of the story ..always try twice...dont know what was so different the second time but i am glad i tried again..
by the way anybody figure out how to keep the conductive ink on the processor instead of coming off with the tape? was really annoying.

I've done that, but only I had the Power Led/ON wire on wrong! :)

That happened to me when I first built my system. I just about had a heart attack!

As for your story, I've had a similar experience. I was installing my processor again after lapping my hs, and I heard that horrible grinding glass sound, if you've chipped a core, you know what I'm talking about. I pulled the heatsink off, and looked at it, and there was a goodish chunk of the corner of the die stuck to the heatsink w/ thermal paste. Well, I cleaned it off REAL good, stuck my sink back on (carefully!) and fired it up. Lo and behold, it booted!

Is for the tape, I cant help you off hand. But I do have a small story, you notice that T-Bird on my sig, well that my dad's machine, and well.....he's not in to overclocking as much as I am(IE, he'd kill me if he new). Besides that, the first time I played with dads processor, I removed it to do my "pencil trick". After I put it back in, NOTHING, and I can tell you that my heart Jumped, but thank God for seccond chances, if it didn't work, I can say I wouldn't be typing thin right now.
