I just resurrected an enermax 650w PSU (EG651P-V(E)). I'm going to use it to power the system in my sig. As it's a resurrected PSU, would it hold? All the PSU calcs say I need from 550W to 600W. The PSU has amp lines of:
3.3v @40A, 5v @46A, 12v @ 24A.
Am I brave/stupid, or would it support this comp?

Dan,
Single 12v rail 24A and 650w? Something doesn't sound right.

I've had it a while. I had a dual XP2000 that died, I thought it was the PSU, but my (rather basic) tests have proven it still works. Other things led me to believe the PSU had died, but now I realise it was the two motherboards (including the dual) were the problem.
Can't believe I've kept it for so long.

For a Prescott and a GTS? LOL! A good brand 400W PSU is more than enough.
Seen the hard drives?
Bad post.
LOL! Too late!

Well your smarter than a customer I have at work.
He wants:
P5N32-E SLi mobo
C2D E6600
4x2gb ddr2-800
5x750gb Segate Barracuda Hdd's in JBOD.
All of this running off this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182017
Spend 1500$ on a rig and 50$ on a power supply... serves him right...
I tried to warn him that he needs more power but the poor guy just wouldn't listen.
Long story short: Yea, go for the 650W, it'll be more than enough power...

Seen the hard drives?
Yep, I saw them later. :D
Anyway, 1 HDD draw ~2A only at boot, else ~1A in seek.
LE: It's not my day today. :( Your Enermax is ATX12V v1.3 with 40A on 5V. It's easy to crossload it with your ATX12V v2.x rig.

Cross load the 5v?

It's a 5V oriented PSU, thus it's only recommended for most socket A motherboards. Newer Abit socket A motherboards, Pentium 4s and Athlon 64s not recommended. Sorry. Unless you can mod it to have more on the 12V rail.

The manual says 'specifically designed for P4' though... But do hard drives use 5v or 12v? That's the main concern.

Both, but almost insignifiant (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article617-page2.html).

Never mind. The 650w isn't needed at all. Just discovered that 4 drives and the dvd drive are dead. This was discovered before trying the 650W.
