Finally a board that us that will serve as a cheap and low power layer. Drop some X4 Phenoms in this puppy and watch the PPD flow! These are the new DTX mini boards proposed by AMD for dedicated as a home servers, SSF and PVRs.

Interesting, I've been interested in the prospect of transitioning the farm to SFF folders, and getting away from the fire belching systems I currently have.

The only problem I see with these is lack of OC'ing options... but we'll just have to wait and see where the chips fall. Who knows, maybe DFI will make something in this form factor. :D
I know AC will have one soon after they arrive... so he can be the guinea pig. ;)

I dunno, seems like alot of people are still PO'd at DFI over the Ultra-D/vdimm/dfi-street debacle. It seems like DFI went downhill bigtime after that whole mess.
I'll be stoked to get my hands on a X4 (probably next year though, after I sell my DFI/X2).

I'll probly go with aDAAMIT version from ECS or Biostar!

Ultra-D/vdimm/dfi-street debacle
What exactly was that? Never heard of it...
BTW.. This looks like it could be really handy... like putting in under the TV or next to the cable box. Perfect size without all the fluff.. was that a PCI slot I saw? I didn't see a PCI-E slot... wonder why?

Heat and PSU. That would be the reason. Even with Mac minis and AOpen MP965 minis running C2Ds, heat is quite evident. I can only imagine what would happen with a PCI-E card added to the mix. ;)

Well, thats kinda annoying. Look at the back panel, I dont see a VGA out or anything, and I dont see anything about onboard graphics. PCI video card anyone?
I think it would be kinda handy. When needed for extra GHz, pull them out and plug them in. When not needed, stick them in a shoebox or something.

From what I remember alot of Ultra-D owners smoked good sticks of high voltage dimms such as BH-5 when they tried to run it in their DFI boards with the 4v dimm jumper set. I remember reading some heated posts from users who were upset, I think some smoked their CPU mem controllers too. There was an argument on dfi-street between AG and end users regarding this exact issue if I remember correctly as people felt the motherboard was at fault, lots of users publicly swore off DFI, and AG recommended people use a different motherboard altogether which DFI did not appreciate as I think he was employed by them. When DFI released the nF4 Expert board last year at a price of $200 that seemed to have further disgruntled users who felt the Expert was what the Ultra-D or even the SLI-DR should've been in the first place.
Had DFI made a kick-ass mATX C2D board I probably would've bought it. My Ultra-D has been working fine ever since I put some sensible voltage memory back into it.

Habaneros rule! Extremely chile, they are! The wife and kids think I'm insane when I eat those delicious eye watering, nose clearing puppies! It's much worse for IH! Way too many D820s in the borg mothership!

@ben- you're correct... that was/is the problem with the first line of DFI nF4 based mobos. However, I don't think that problem caused a huge defection from DFI. Maybe to some degree but not an overwhelming shift away. I have, let's see, 5 nF4 based mobos (4 Ultra-D, 1 SLI-DR) and I've experienced none of those issues with high voltage memory... b/c I don't own any high voltage memory. ;)
You're also correct that AG was employed by DFI to provide support for their mobos through his forum that he owned. In which, he publicly bashed DFI and their product and now they have gone their separate ways. Personally, I think that was a wise business decision on the part of DFI.
All in all... I'd like to see them continue their enthusiast mobo tradition. Once tweaked, my DFI boards have all been very solid and I like having (and am growing used to having) the tweaker options in the bios. Buying a mediocre board like the ECS I just bought makes me regret not spending a little extra $$$ for something better, like a DFI. :D

I still like DFI too, once I got my Ultra-D/X2 overclock dialed in the system has been solid. I think high voltage DDR1 was just a bad idea for the K8 altogether, I had some issues with CH5 on both of my nF4 boards (Biostar and DFI), but never on my nF2.

They're not so bad for free with the Fry's combos. :D

I like my ECS mobos, Set-em and Forget-em.
Most DTX boards will have PCI-E slots 1-16bit and 1-4bit depending on configuration or looks like th one pictured has 1 PCI old school and a 1bit or 4bit (black, you can't see the connector real well). They aught to be cheap too. As for heat, one 120mm fan should cool the whole rig. I also think these will be meant for 65w and lower procs with limited space for fire breathing MOSFET sinks.

That's ~200ppd on bigpackets... far less on regular gromacs. It would take five of those rigs to equal what one DC w/1mb L2 can do alone on SMP.
Geeze... it just doesn't pay to run UP anymore does it?

With all the points inflation for Stanford's "pet projects", (SMP flavors, GPU, PS3 clients), it really doesn't pay to run the standard folding client at all in a points/kilowatt-hour of electricity used comparison. With the SMP client seeming to be the most efficient (with C2D 4 MB cache procs) in producing points/KWH of the 3 favored new clients.

This changes in 2 months with the Native Phenom X4s running on these DTX boards. This will be the platform of choice. PPD per watt is going to be even more in favor of the AM2 layers. AMD is already the best in overall points/KWH when the system is tested with true RMS wattage consumed for 2 core procs, X4s will take it the next step.

More likely September (http://www.dailytech.com/Final+AMD+Stars+Models+Unveiled+/article7157.htm?www.reghardware.co.uk), at the very earliest. He's an AMD fanboi too, hope always springs eternal. ;)

I'm hoping for more of an August release as there's nothing definite yet. However, it'll probably be November around Turkey time when I put mine together. Gives me a little time to plan the system and see some benchmarks.
Dual Quad AgenaFX w/4GB DDR2.

I resemble that remark :D
Realistically it will end up being 4-6 months but the boards are supposed to ship in July.
