Audigy won't go to 4 speaker mode

I just bought a Sound blaster Audigy. I have 4 speakers connected, and installed the software, and the xp updates on the website, but I cannot switch it from 2 channel to 4 channel mode. I know where to switch, but when I click on the pulldown menu to switch, it does nothing. What's wrong?

if i had a dollar every time i thought i was stumped, and posted a thread on this forum, only to solve it 10 minutes after,well......i would be a dollar richer today.
