I am currently having booting issues with my new AMD XP 1900+.

Problem: When I turn my computer on for the first time from a cold start, it does not boot up. I can hear the harddrives start spinning, but the screen goes blank and the monitor seems to go into standby or power-saver mode. It I try to turn the computer off and back on using the case switch, it won't do anything...it always goes to a blank screen and does nothing. This also happens when I make a change in my CMOS, and then quit. The settings are saved, but screen goes blank and the monitor light blinks.

If I pull the plug on my power supply when it's stuck in this mode, and then plug it back in, the computer starts right up and boots fine. I get into windows 2000 with no problems. I can even hit "Restart" and the computer boots right back up with no problems. HOwever if I decide to shut down completely, I run into the same problem all over again as described above.

Also worth mentioning is that this only appears to be happening when I choose a FSB of 133. I can choose any processor speed I want, when the FSB is 133 this booting stuff happens. When I chose an FSB of 100, al these booting issues disappear.

My system:

CPU: AMD XP 1900+
Motherboard: Abit KG7-Raid (I have raid disabled for now)
Memory: 1 512Meg chip (Samsung ECC DDR-266 chip inserted into slot 4 on this board)
Powersupply: 400W Antec
Heat: 45-52. I know this is a little high and I'm working on it. Shouldn't cause this problem though.
Bios: Lastest that Abit offers at their site
Drivers: Latest that Abit offers at their site.

CMOS Settings:

CPU Speed: 1600
FSB Speed 133
Multiplier: 10.5
FSB Rate(CPU:SDRAM:PCI) 4:4:1 (This is another difference between FSB133 and FSB100). When I select a FSB of 100, this value goes to 3:3:1.

Vcore: 1.75V
Current I/O: 3.50V
DDR Vcc Voltage: 2.65V

Does anyone have any ideas? I can't keep doing what I'm doing to boot up every time. Please help!!!!

Thank you.

I have not experienced the exact problem you have, but some similar ones; that said-
Ok, these are all things that have SOMETIMES worked for me:

First, try the ram in the first slot

Try less aggressive memory settings in BIOS

If that doesn't do it then try reseating the cpu

What are your voltage readings? Low 5v lines can cause weird troubles.

Good luck

Memory must be inserted in slot 4 on this board (weird, I know).

Not sure what you mean by less aggressive memory settings. My memory should be able to handle 133FSB. Slowing it down to 100 will solve the problem, but it will also slow my computer down considerably. Not really an option...It's like buying a sports car and have a shutoff at 60mph.

No luck with resetting the cpu.

5V voltage is currently 5.08. I have a 400W psu, so I think that should be sufficient.

Thanks for your help!

Anyone else? Please????
