I've been working on my first OC for the last couple weeks and so far so good, but I got a couple questions.

I'm running very stable right now at 900Mhz/150FSB. I've run Prime and FAH all night several times with no lockups and the temp sittin' pretty at around 32C. I didn't trust the flaky on board thermal thingy so I snugged a compunurse up to the core. I found that the built in thermal sensor is pretty close at full load +/- 3 degrees or so, but shows idle at 20C, which is impossible with a case temp at 22C. The compunurse shows idle at ~24C.

My questions:

1. That temp to me seems to good to be true, especially at 1.95V. I do have a crap load of fans, but still, could that be right? I've read good reviews on the VOS32, but is it that good?

2. Am I going to blow up my chip running at 1.95V? I read a few places that if you run high V for a while you can eventually back down a notch or two, but if the temp is fine, do I really need to worry about it? I'm running it high to avoid the bsod I get sometimes when just surfin' around at 1.9V.

3. Has anyone ever came across a set-up that refused to run stable at 133/33 but runs fine at 140/35 and 150/37? I was working my way up the FSB ladder and couldn't get 3DMark2001 to run at 133/33 (with my GTS at stock freq.) So I'm like S%@$! Just for fun I kicked it up another notch and it ran fine. I tried 3 different NVidia drivers including 2250's and the 23.11's I'm runnin' now, it was wierd.

I'm pretty new to this, and now totally and hopelessly addicted. I just need to find an excuse to blow some money on another mobo to see what this chip can do.
:D :D :D

im envious:beer: ....nice oc there, what stepping is the cpu, if its cA2 or cBo i ouldnt expect to go much farther if its cCo you might be able to milk some more mhz outta her.....also a Vos32 is very Good but those temps do sound suspicious are you touching the core?? Put some thermal grease on the probe to make sure its reading right, also does the P3B-F take advantage of the onboatrd intel diode, if so your temps should be accurate....laso after a week or two at 1.95 i would back it down and it should be stable....

Opps, shoulda mentioned it was a Slot1 cB0.

I believe the P3B-F uses the onboard diode, but it jumps around like crazy, but still within a couple degrees of the one I added.

Question about getting the probe to touch the core. I trimed most of the rubbery coating off the probe and did put some grease on it (AS Alumina). It is touching, but I could probably get better contact if I scraped off some of the stuff that's sittin' around the sides of core, is that safe to remove?

i wouldnt risk it, and as long as its stable your temps are probably fine.....i dont think the intel diode is wrong often...

Yes and no, all you will do is speed up the electromigration (http://www.csl.mete.metu.edu.tr/Electromigration/emig.htm) process thus shortening the CPU's life span, but who cares if your CPU dies 5 years earlier, by the time it dies it will be worthless anyhow.

You could calibrate the on-die diode, have a look here (http://www.arcticsilver.com/diode_calibration.htm), that way you'll know if your temps are way off.

Thanx for the input, gentlemen!

I'm gonna try to calibrate it this weekend, doesn't sound too complicated. And I'll probably try to decrease the voltage in another week or so, see if she stays stable.

50% overclock beautiful..

Yea you should really hit down the voltage abit but its good for the burn in...

Well Have fun.
