I was in the comp shop today wondering about the price of a 1 GHz P3. Then asked about a "good HSF". The only ones I was shown were for an Athlon XP. When I poiunted this out to the clerk and asked if they were compatable he said he "thought" so and they "should" be compatable. He also asked one of the guys that built pre-mades for customers and I got the same "thought" and "should" from him.

Is this the case or were these guys out to lunch? I do plan to go back there as the prices are good and they are friendly to o/cers. I need to know if I can take thier advice or if I should do other investigating before making a purchase??

Thanks,
Dr.

It depends from heatsink to heatsink. Some are, some aren't. Most are, but there are some that will crack the core of your P3. What type of HSF was it?

One was a Global Win, the other was a Volcano !!. They were right beside a HSF that was labled for a Socket 370 (I don't know why he didn't show me that) and looked to be about the same.

Usually you should look on the box if it gives you what kind of processor it supports.

Usually Socket A does support socket 370 as well..
