I am having some display and stability problems with my computer and i am unsure what the problem is.

specs: amd 3800+ dual core, xfx 7900 gt, 2gb ram, windows xp pro w/ 93.71 drivers

I've had this computer for just under a year now and just recently got the monitor fixed while under warranty.

I am unable to run 3d games for longer then an hour before artifacts start appearing on my screen. Soon after this my system either locks up completely forcing me to restart or kicks me out of the game. If I try to open it back up i get an error saying 3D acceleration was unable to start and to make sure DirectX is installed...which it is.

Any suggestions on how to fix this or should i look at getting the card replaced? thanks

and i also forgot to mention that when i leave my computer idle for a couple of hours it completely locks up even with just msn/irc running and forces me to restart which is very irritating

Sounds like it is overheating. Eitherway though, if you have a backup card to use in the mean time I would definatly replace the card.

Keep in mind that earlier 7900 GTs had a plethora of memory issues. You may have just got one that's finally acting up after a lot of use. If it's an XFX, they have a pretty good warranty. It sounds like you may be able to RMA.
