I recently got into overclocking when i saw amazing results from it and just b/c I was plain bored. I've read articles about it found on this website and hardocp went out and bought some stuff.
went to my local frys and got some things.
1. blorb for my gpu(non OC related)
2. thermal compound for the blorb
3. conductive pen
4. temp LCD probe

I found out I didnt need the pen b/c my 1.2 TB came unlocked from the factory as one of your articles said it might have been. I got a magnifying glass and looked at it for a good minute to make sure I wasnt missing the laser cut spaces.

Anways, I took my hard to get on/off heatsink off and put the probe in there.

2 questions.

1. For some reason the probe says its -15° C and I know thats wrong..so if someone could tell me the right way to install the probe plz do.

2.I'm a newbie OCer and dont really know the ropes..i've pretty much left my multiplier and core volatge alone..what are some good ways to OC it and get good results..i've got a heatsink so im not really worried about heat problems until I reach a lot higher mhz than intended then ill back off until I can get my hands on a better heatsink..
my heatsink is the Global Win WBK38 picture found: http://www.coolerguys.com/pictures/WBK38.jpg
and info on it found: http://www.coolerguys.com/cpucool/duron.shtml <--towards the bottom just look for the model #

if you guys dont mind sharing info with me or point me in a direction to find out info about smart ways to OC plz do...thnx

P.S.: if it matters i've got an enermax whisper 350x PS and softmenuIII for my BIOS w/ abit kt7a-RAID mobo

Welcome to the forums! I'm not to sure about the probe. I just use the one that was provided. It seems to be accurate enough. Are you using Via Hardware Monitor? I like that one the best! Depending on your stepping and your ram. I took the multiplier up one and started to increase the FSB. When it became unstable, I increased the vcore up a notch. I have the I/O at 3.6. There are so many different combinations you can try with the SoftMenu. Just start with cpu then memory. This is a wonderful site for questions:

funny thing about VIAHM

i've used it for a while and a couple months ago for no reason at all my temp went from about 38 to around high 40's and low 50's..i noticed my vcore had changed to 1.82 when it was set to 1.75 in the bios...is this a PS problem? or a VIAHM problem? the pc health status in the bios also shows the same increase in all my voltages and temp when I had never touched it...could my PS gone bad and started fluxuating for no reason? thnx for the tips i'd totally forgotten about the volt mod and ill have to do that so i can go higher...thnx

No it's not a problem. It's actually a good problem to have. The max vcore is 1.85, so yours would be 1.92. Mines the same way.
Did you flash a new bios? 3R and up increase the temps 5-10 deg.!
