Well, I'm in the market for a new Universal Remote control that can work with my HTPC as a mouse/keyboard, and of course can also operate the TV/Receiver / whatever component with learning capabilities.

So far the only 1 I've seen that can do this is the Sony RM-AX4000A

A cheaper solution that can be done now, would be using something like the Firefly remote (I prefer RF remotes, but whatever remote you would prefer sould work), Girder to automate tasks/assign functions to each remote button, and multiple USB IR transmitters to control all your gear from your pc.

FYI, Firefly has a mouse mode that can turn the 4 directional button to control the mouse. it's quite ok for quick use, but surely can't replace as a real mouse tho!

There's also A program I used to use that let me use my MCE remote as a mouse. I can't, for the life of me, find it, or remember what it was though.

I'm now thinking this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880111002

plus the firefly...program it, then just use the usb receiver

I've got the Harmony 550 running my tv, htpc, reciever, and cable box, I love it.

do you know if the 670 is able to learn from other remotes?

yes, it could.

I thought you want a remote that can also use as a keyboard & mouse? the harmony can't do that. or not easy AT ALL!

btw, I'm using a 880, and love it!!

It should be able too. Have you looked at the 550 at all? I really like the looks of it compared to the rounder harmonys.

what about this 1 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2340195&CatId=358 or this one http://www.gyration.com/en-US/OEMProduct.html or this 1.. http://www.x10iconremote.com/ the firsst 2 are more media center related.. I'm thinking about getting 1 of the gyration remotes when I get my HTPC up and running..

My situation is, I've got a cheapo remote already for the PC, and a learning universal All For One, but the universal runs out of memory, so I can't get all the buttons I need programmed. The cheapo remote is

as you can see, theirs no manufacturer and I dont know if logitechs website could find the right matchup if the 670 isn't able to learn keys from my cheap remote. The only reason i'm not considering the 550, is it doesn't have a full backlit remote, while the 670 lights up quite well :)

Huh? Every key on my 550 lights up.

the logitech can learn IR code/command from another remote. and that's how I tell it to learn to control my HTPC (via a cheap IR Steamzap remote). you might just need to spend a little more time to set it up right.

as for gyration, never use their remote before, but I do use their compact keyboard & mouse for my HTPC's occasional needed (for keyboard/mouse) tho. I even use it to play games (CS:S) and pretty happy with it.

The Firefly remote has a dedicated 'Mouse' button that does indeed allow the 4 directional buttons to be used as a simple 2 button mouse. However, if you use Girder and not the regular Firefly drivers, you can program those buttons to do anything else you want. A gyro mouse would make a excellent substitute if the remote doesnt have such a function built in (I never knew there was a gyro remote out, something for me to look into).

WoW, my mistake! It just didn't look like it did from the newegg website :D

I wasn't specifically looking for a keyboard mouse, I just meant a remote that could do basic functions of a keyboard, and move the mouse cursor around like a mouse... do those remotes that move the mouse like a nintendo wii have a backlight??
