View Full Version : Some memory sleeps better than others

I've discovered a curious issue with memory used for overclocking: some memory is great for running at overclocked speeds, but it falls short when the computer must wake from Sleep/Standby mode.

I recently installed 2GB of Patriot 8500 memory (running at 2.3v) in my Vista computer, which I'm running at 400FSB speed (gives 3.2Ghz on E6400). The Patriot sometimes will not wake up from sleep mode, requiring a reboot. When the FSB is set to the standard 266mhz speed, the Patriot has no problems with sleep mode.

To test whether memory was the problem, I reinstalled my old OCZ 6400 memory (running at 2volts), and the problems went away. I'd like to use the faster Patriot memory, but I'm not willing to give up sleep or standby mode to do so. Has anyone else had any problems with memory and sleep mode? Both types of memory were running at 800 speed and with loose timings (5-5-5-12).

I know I tried to use "AI-Nap" on my main system (Asus' "Low Power" mode where you can still be DL-ing files and stuff while consuming minimal power), and it just craps out and crashes my PC. It seems like a KILLER feature, but not if it doesn't even work :(

I'd assume OC'ing has something to do with it, too. I have never used sleep/hibernate...
