While in the process of volt modding my kr7a, I chipped my 1.2 Ghz Athlon. Obviously, this really ****ed me off. Just for the sake of it, I continued to piece together the computer and to my suprise, it still seems to work just fine! Um... Any idea here as to why a cpu would continue to operate with a core chipped relatively badly?
Nobody really knows! I guess it's just luck! I have a chipped Duron that works like a charm!
The processor I'm running right now has a chipped corner. It still runs like a dream @ 1200 Mhz. It'll even hit 1300 into windows w/ more voltage.
i chipped mine along time ago and and she worked well until tonight when i reset the heatsink and did it in for good...RIP

Mine is chipped too, working but hot as hell. It's about 60c idle running undercloked 1.2@1.0.
Does yours get that hot too?
Also, I can't overclock it.. it won't go any higher than 1.238mhz.

If you chip a core and the processor still works, you're a lucky man....
I chipped my Duron last week and it's a goner. Will still post but won't load Windows without errors.

seems like amd would try to make them as small as possible so if ou do chip them then its a goner... dont flamer me for saying this but amd all the way so far!

heh, I don't know anyone who has a duron 600 or 650 that doesn't have a nick or missing croner off the core .............I've got a duron 600 that OC's to 1ghz and a 650 that OC's to 1ghz .........
Both of them are chipped and still run..........:D
Your lucky... that simple..i have chipped 3 athlons which all died.

Had a HS clip break on me and it took the whole of one edge of my Athlon off. Aside from slightly higher temps, it runs fine and still overclocks as much as it ever did. Guess that this was very lucky.

i got an athlon 1333 AYHJA Y that was a worthless overclock, only being completly stable at 1400. it now has all four corners chiped with one being much worse that the others. still worked and ran flawlessly until i got my XP.

FYI guys... I noticed that after being chipped it's easier to loose more of it, so I cleaned the surface and put a dab of super glue over the top. It seemed to do the trick because nothing flakes off anymore. Just make sure you don't get any on the top or else the heatsink won't mount right. :)

You wanna see my T-Bird!!!! Lets say every time I take the HSF off I hear cracking!!!
All along the top of it is sharp and ragged and there was loads of metal all around the core, now theres some sort of green gunk thats oozed out of it!!!
Gets to 1300 from 1000 at Default Voltage Though!!!!
