T2792 Specs:
Intel Celeron 2.70GHz Processor 128KB L2 cache & 400MHz FSB
Intel 845GV chipset
256MB DDR (PC 2100)
Intel Extreme Graphics 3D 64MB Shared memory
AC '97 Audio
10/100Mbps built-in Ethernet
***********************

as long as it supports DDR (if your RAM didnt fry too, and your keeping that) there shouldn't be a problem with buying an AMD based motherboard and processor.

You can get cheap motherboard cpu combos off newegg.com though. I wouldnt look to the emachines website to get more crappy components.

Also, you might need a microATX motherboard. The standard ATX might be to big for the case.

you mean shouldnt right? what about the case chords. what am i looking for and if the power supply smoked up, is it a possibility the chords from he case are fried and whaqt about the CPU?

opps, typo, thanks, i fixed it. Yeah it should NOT be a problem.

If your not sure whats fried, try running it with another power supply. I fried a few power supplies in the past, none screwd up my system, just itself. Maybe the mobo isnt even fried.

If that doesnt work, figuring out what else is fried could just be testing each component. I've never done that much damage to a comptuer to give you a good answer on what could and couldnt be broken though.

My bet guess is (if you havnt already checked) the power supply is just burned out and not the rest of the rig.

did u have smoke coming out though?

well it was more of a loud bright spark. the smoke was probably just melting of plastic or somthing. depending on the internal layout of the p.s

i didnt hyave a spark all i got was some smoke and a bad smell thats it. It looked like it was by the corner where the mobo was. first when i plugged the power in, it made a running noise than stopped but ran again but the cpu fan didint run sdo my thought one of the rails is busted and i need a new psu. So if i buy a mobo that has same demensions, it will work? I have an XP CD. they said it would work with the XP code on the case. otherwise it will work?

yeah, make sure its the same socket for ur cpu and supports the same type of memory you have.

yea absolutly. people say they have ghost partitions installed therefore people told me that you cant have other parts except by emachines. is this true or, all you have to do i wipe the hard drive and you can have the parts right?

Might ask yourself if it will be cheaper to get the parts to rebuild it, build a new system that really rocks, or go this route..http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=bddwbbd&s=bsd
