Hey guys,
i have Optimum Online Boost (advertised at 30mb/s down, 2mb/s up)
a few months after i switched to the service i was gettin maybe 7mb/s down during tests so i called them up and they updated the firmware on my modem. it went up to like 15mb/s. The the customer support lady asked me to run the test directly through the modem (bypass the router). then i was getting my 30mb/s down and 2 up.
for some reason this is what i get with the router:
(3 computers wired and 1 wireless running through it at a time)

im liking the 4mb/s up =) but 10mbps down?!?!?!?!
I have a DI-524 router.. any suggestions on how to boost things up?
thanks for your help in advance

EDIT:
I suspect your routers WAN port is only a 10Mbps port. Many home routers come with a 10Mbps WAN port, not a 10/100Mbps. This will slow your connection to the speeds that you are seeing, as the router probably has very little processing power as well. I suspect it simply cannot pass the amount of traffic that your Internet connection supports.
I like the Netgear business-class line of WIFI routers, and I think some of their home routers support 10/100Mbps ports as well on the WAN side.
I have a DI-524 router.. What revision?

A3
I forgot to also ask for the firmware version. What firmware version is being used?
I believe that DI-524 revision A @ DI-624 revision A may be possible.
EDIT: I can confirm that DI-524 revision C @ DI-624 revision C or DI-524 revision D @ DI-624 revision D are possible; I am not sure about the revision A models.

its definetly the ****ty dlink router... get rid of it and get a WRT54GL. i got a 15mbit connection and i can grab all 15mbit wired (not quite the same on wireless but thats just because its wireless.... IE it sucks)
he he and i can OC my router :p

I checked the Optimum website and it advertises the Optimum Online Boost service with up to 30Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream. ( http://www.optimum.com/order/boost/index.jsp )
Both the downstream and upstream measures may not be near the advertised maximums.

version 1.21
Try another version of the firmware. Upgrading or dowwgrading the firmware may solve the problem.
1.23 seems to be the most recent D-Link DI-524 revision A firmware.
It may help to disable Gaming Mode if it is enabled (the default setting).
Another thing you may try is to ensure MTU value of router's WAN configuration is set to 1500 and use SG TCP Optimizer ( http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php ) to set "Optimal Settings" (slide Connection Speed selector to 20000, ensure 1500 MTU is filled and Apply changes (make a backup too)).

updated fireware. turned off gaming mode. set to 1500, and used TCP Opt. to get to 20,000.
hmmm.. got me up a little

actually while i was testing this.. i ran it a few times, and one of the times it jumped up to like 20mbps then like 15mbps then like 17mbps for like a quick couple miliseconds and gave me a total of 13.somthing mbps down
i think i might of just got lucky with that, but maybe theres somthing else thats holding it back..??
The only other options seem to be to try an earlier version of the firmware, or replace the device.
If DI-524 revision A @ DI-624 revision is possible, the problem may not be solved if DI-524 revision A @ DI-624 exists. The poor WAN access is not uncommon on DI-524/DI-624.

My router has lately had problems connecting to the modem. It boots it off and then the modem has to find another connection. The ISP claims it is a router problem and wants to sell me a router/wireless modem combo.
I'll have to try the latest firmware. It doesn't sound like it 'breaks' anything.

try changing your channel. your getting too much interference.

The router itself was knocking out the connection with the modem.
I replaced the cable that connected the two,but more importantly I updated the di-524 firmware to 1.23 from 1.21 and now the internet is flying.
