So ... i'm diving into the world of QUAD CORE... and i was wondering ... should i save about 600-700 bucks and just overclock to around the same speed.... or should i go all out and get the QX6800? as of right now i'm planning on the QX6700 ... unless you guys can change my mind

i dunno if its my opinion or fact but since they are both extreme processors... they both have unlocked multipliers there for making them the same processor... except 1 comes stock clocked a tad bit higher! i would save money n get the qx6700.. but thats just my opnion..

If you're not going to use "extreme" cooling I really wouldn't spend the money on the Extreme Edition CPUs.

all in time ... lol first ima get down the air cooling ... and slowly move to water cooled... by the time i'm done with water cooling i guess i'll prolly need a new pc so then i will go phase ... but ima take gradual steps because i don't wanna rush into something and waste a $1000 chip.. lol

QX6700 is around $900~$1000, QX6800 is around $1700

I don't think "x11" multiplier justifies $700~800 price difference

Plus I've seen a lot of QX6700 easily overclocked to 400 FSB with stock

multiplier and stock cooling. That's 4Ghz...

well that chip your planning to get runs hotter then any core 2 duo! so if i were you i would base my chip on my cooling... IMO i would get a q6600 and a phase.... but thats just me!

Definitely not going to get 4ghz with stock cooling. Can't even dream about it.

Personally I could find a better way to spend $3,000...

I'd go with the cheaper chip and use some better cooling.
