Hmmm i was just wondering?
Would there would be anyway to hook up this strobe (http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/promotion.php?ItemID=17974&cart=011212144910144431&PromoID=&SubGroupID=&PromoName=&type=) to activate when the HD activates.
It would be inside the case! Could be fairly cool i think!
All help accepted!
Would a relay work!
Just noticed this thread is very similar to the HDD Neon thread, I had not spotted that one!
It might be quite a bit more difficult to convert 12v DC to 230VAC and have it work properly.

As far as i can remember from my electrotechnology classes going from DC to AC is impossible!!!! (Very expensive if possible!)
Got a bit of info of the Neon thread think i'll try a relay to turn it on and off!
A friend of mine got 2 12V ones mounted in the grill of his car!
He had a few spare but they would not run off of the 12V line in the PC supply.
Would the current be too low!

I don't think the current is too low, as they use ~2 - 5W @ 12V.
If you want it to blink the same as your HDD led does, the relay will (most likely) be too slow and probably be worn out real fast, also the clicking noise might get annoying.
Your best bet would be a sound activated strobe and mod it a bit, I believe Conrad.com has them but they're pretty expensive.
Of course you could mod a 'regular' strobe, but you'll have to know how to do that (if you knew how you wouldn't ask this right?).
Just keep in mind if you decide to 'play' with the strobe, there's about 15000!!!! volt inside.
oh and inverters (EX: 12V DC->230V AC) aren't that expensive, but they aren't cheap either (but ~$150 for a strobe mod is very expensive).
