I'm connected directly to the modem, windows firewall service is disabled, no aftermarket firewall software, no router, nothing else. I still never get the green symbol that indicates a good connection. Also whenever I test a port it says its blocked.

Any ideas or advice (related to the topic)?

Cable or DSL modem?

Not sure about cable, but DSL modems these days tend to have built-in firewall setups. Might need to forward a a high-level (~39000) non-standard port.

Depending on your ISP or university they may be blocking BT traffic at their end as well.

yeah, try an alternative port....also make sure the modem doesn't have a built in firewall or something....and also under: Options > Speed Guide, check "Enable Encryption"

Apparently some ISPs will monitor and block some P2P/torrent traffic. My ISP (AT&T) apparently does because after I checked this, my download speeds went up like 10 fold. Before I always thought bittorrent was crappy because the speeds were never that great (and I didn't understand why with soo many seeders and stuff) ...but it turned out it was being blocked! Now I can actually use most/all of my bandwidth when downloading :)

But, if your modem doesn't have a firewall...and there's no other applications or anything blocking, maybe the ISP is limiting that port? So try another.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Yeah, I've had the encryption on but doesn't seem to matter. I've tried all different ports up into the 50000's. My internet service is BPL and I'm not sure about a built in firewall. Since it runs over the power lines, the modem is just a big ol' plug, about 2" X 3", that an ethernet cable plugs into. I guess I'll call them up and ask. Thanks again.

see if it has a web interface....open your browser and try connecting to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and see if anything comes up

Nothing.

look up your manual and see if it has another ip that you can use to access it. Also if your ip is 192.168.x.x you most likely have a modem that has a router built in, and the default gateway should be the ip to connect to.

do start -> run -> cmd -> ipconfig and see what the default gateway is.

Its 10.121.xxx.x. Not sure if it matters that you get the exact number. It does seem to work slightly better at night (meaning that it works at all) but the most I ever get it 10kB/s. It never works during the day. I don't pick up any seeders or peers.

10.whatever is CIDR - we can't pwn you because CIDR addresses are non-routable- so please, tell us.

10.121.164.1. If I plug this into the address bar I get nothing.
