You don't have the blue orb on your cpu, do you? That is not meant for that, it is a vid card/chipset cooler!

Anyway, good temps for a 1.0 ghz Athlon are 40C or less. Mine, overclocked gets into the mid 40's.

AMD says that 90 degrees is the limit, but I wouldn't get near that.

If you are looking for a new heat sink, I would suggest a Volcano 6Cu, it is cheap, and will be good cooler for your Athlon.

Just watch out for temps in the mid to high 50's! Anything over is getting dangerously hot!

Edit: I have to stop thinking in volt mod vcore terms!:)

My 1Ghz K7 works at 35C at 1Ghz and 40C at 1.208 and the anly cooling is one FOP38.

I'm trying to find out what HSF is better for me between CAK38, CBK38, or Glaciator 2 and get it as gift :) for my PC :))))))

What are common vcore settings for unclocked chips and OCed ones?

For instance, what's the recommended vcore for a 1ghz t-bird unclocked?
For 1gHz t-bird OCed to 1.2?
1.2 reg?
1.2->1.4?

What's the max volt a t-bird can take?

just up the voltage if you have to ,more or less it will just add stability at your proc. limit

These questions depend more on specific circumstances than anything else.

Except for the high part. 70C is the limit if you wanna keep it running for a while. If you're using your insocket thermistor, then you're gonna want to keep it down to 60C cause those things are dreadfully inaccurate (http://www.overclockers.com/tips507).
