I dont know exactly what the problem is but my computer will not run at default speed.

default would be 1000mhz (10x100) with a pci divider of 3.

ok now at 1240 (10x124) pci divider of 4. works fine.

i cant figure it out.

and before i had this chip i had my pci above 33 mhz so i'm not sure whats going on.

i think it might be either a power issue or a harddrive issue. or a power to hd issue

my psu is 300W.

here is whats plugged in
-abit bx6 2. p3 1000E
-4 80mm fans
-millennium glaciator II heatsink
-2 harddrives
-250meg zip drive
-3.5 floppy
-40x cd
-pci soundcard
-diamond viper 550
-4 256meg dimms

ok well its not a power issue. the only thing i've added recently is my zip drive. i'll try and unplug it later tonight to see if thats causing a conflict

ok heres what happens. the computer boots. goes to windows. right before the password box pops up the computer resets itself.

i'm still not throwing out the possibility of my harddrive dying either. its a 20 gig ibm gxp drive. these things have been known to have bugs. i still cant figure out why the computer is resetting?

update
I pulled the zipdrive and i got an error message that says windows is restarting in 60 seconds.

nice

i asked my brother and he didnt think it was a harddrive issue. perhaps windows needs to be reinstalled. I have changed several parts including all of my ram and my processor recently.

Are you sure the PCI devider was at 1/3 at 100mhz fsb
If it was at 1/4 then underclocking your PCI cards might cause problems.

I wouldnt be all that bothered, as i see it youve got a nice overclock there so why change it ?

Is your memory PC133? And is it all detected by POST? You might try playing musical slots with the sticks, or perhaps removing one or two and seeing what happens.

this makes me really mad. it was a windows thing. i reinstalled windows and now it works. i hate windows more than anything. its gonna take hours to reintall everything.

if your wondering why i want to run unoverclocked. i need some more stability. when grading papers its not a good thing when the computer freezes.

i probably do have a bios issue. my brother thought it could be the bios battery.

does anyone know where to get new bios batteries?
