i was wondering if you could add a resititor or something to the power lines going from the 3pin mobo fan headers.. i dunno how to explain it better.. but modding the fan header to give off 7v.. cuz i use my cpu fan header for my top case 120mm fan blow hole, and id like to be able to switch it to 12/7v is i could.. same with my 120mm rad fans, im gonna mod in to my case within the next couple of weeks..

yah, you could do that- I did. I put a Y in the 12V line, one with a resistor and one without. Tossed in a 2 pole switch, and blammo, dual speed fan. depending on what resistors you get you can pick whatever fan speed you want. Mine are at 9v.

Be warned, that electricity has to go somplace- the resistor will get pretty warm!

is there a way to pick out the right resitior i need? radioshack has like a billion different ones.. 9v would be fine too.. just my 120mm fans are like a tad bit louder then all my other fans i have in my case so it like to be able to turn them down when i need to..

What's the wattage of the fan? I can make recommendations from there.

you can just figure it out yourself:

[working voltage - desired voltage]\device amperage draw = resistance.

unless I'm crazy, that'll do it. Worked for LEDs anyway.

Another option would be to use a 3 pole togle. connect the black line from the fan to the center pole. Connect a ground from the powersupply to one pole and the 5V wire to the other. This would let you switch between 12V and 7V.

3.6 watts...

watts=volts*amps :)
