T32 Lost & Found
- An effort to find some of our lost brethren and boost team spirit.
- I have PM'd everyone on the list I've compiled below and hope they post here and let us know how they're doing, folding, or just to come chat.
- The list is absolutely random as I just scanned old threads for names of people I haven't seen in a while.
Disclaimer: I did not check folding output, OCF activity, or anything else. This list is of people I cannot personally recall seeing. So there is a high probability that it is flawed and I apologize if your name is here even if you've been active.

Good to know Midnight! :) I think I may have clicked to your profile and saw you were still being active on OCF. However, that didn't stop me from putting you on the list. :D
Sit down... have a cup of , I mean- coffee. How are those Georgia wildfires gettin' ya'll in Tifton? It's been bad here off and on... I'm just 100+ miles west of you guys. :)

Last year I got tired of my power-hungry bigtower dual Irwindale Xeon system on water and decided to go solely DTR, since I was always using my laptop anyways! But I'm still here folding with the laptop in my sig, often leaving it on overnight just for Team32 lol! I occasionally post in other sections of ocforums.com

I'm still here and folding, I just haven't been checking the Folding section of the forums lately. I haven't been checking my Folding stats either... But it turns out I got 300k sometime a couple of weeks ago. :D

Good to know you're still with us Lancelot! :) And thanks for running that lappy. It's guys like you who just dedicate just a rig or two that really make the difference.
@Soichiro, excellent milestone! x 300k for you my friend.

I'm still around the forums from time to time (I bought a cool Pirate Folding shirt :D).
I'm still folding as well  I'm working toward the 1 million point mark and will hopefully be there before long. I recently upgraded to a C2D E6600 so when I start folding on it, it should really help my production!
I'm leaving tomorrow to go on vacation for a week, but when I get back, I will try to hang out here more. Thanks for the message harlam, I think this is a good idea. :)
BTW, if anybody needs any Folding Propaganda, just yell! lol :D

I'm here. For the record, I fold as cshive5, and am ranked #42. I used to fold w/o a team since mid 2001 before joining T32 in mid 2003. I chose to keep my original FAH user name, but now it looks like I shoulda just switched! I had only 18K points from before joining T32. :-/
I'm a slow and steady folder, in it for the long haul. Fold on!

You've found me! Still folding steady with the main rig, although I had to take down the server today because I'm moving and will need to cut back on electricity use :( Going to hit 200k this month though which I'm pretty proud of. :)
So I'm still around and drop by randomly to read a few threads but mostly I've been trying to be out and about enjoying 21.

Hey, I'm still around and still folding! I've been less active on the forums mainly because of work. 6-7 days a week doesn't leave much time for anything so I've chosen to get out of the house and try to have some kind of a social life. I definitely have some computer maintenance to catch up on but I haven't done it yet. I'm also trying to get stuff together so I can move out of my parents house among other things. I'll post some more later, I'm gonna do something tonight lol.

Im also still around, but 99.99% of the time I just read through the forums. Folding is still doing good, although my ps3 points are down due to Monster Hunter (ps2 game).
I just got out of school last Saturday. All of my rigs should be up again as soon as I finish unpacking and do some basic maintenance.

Ahh wow...I hadn't completely forgot about T32 just have been really busy lately. That and I switched to linux (32 bit instead of 64, whoops). I just sold my main C2D rig so I'll have to get my laptop up and running.

Hello. Although totally random that this thread was started yesterday and I'm responding today I haven't been on the forum for at least two or three weeks. I hardly visit the forums anymore since I'm working 50+ hours a week, commuting to school full time, and also wrenching for several race teams. I had to quit folding a few months ago when the weather started to turn warm as my laptop was just getting too hot for my comfort. I currently do not have any other computers together for folding, although I have enough pieces for three (two mobile bartons and my classic duron), I just haven't found the time to get them put together. I did get my F@H T32 pirate shirt not too long ago and wear it often. :)

Wish you were still folding w/ T32, but, glad you're still folding.
aawwww shugs..
nice to see threads like this. makes it feel like a little community.
Im still folding away, although at one point i was chasing big numbers (i was on the topten list for t32), i'd just as rather have a little stack of stable work horses. (although 5x C2d will be added shortly, folding 24x5 :) )
i still try and read the forums looking to help some1, but as it increasingly moves towards linux and PS3 it moves out of my knowledge base..
**hugs the folding community back**

Hi, I'm here. I'm working 2 jobs and planning a wedding, so I don't have much extra time anymore. Things should hopefully calm down after the wedding in September. I'm still folding SMP on my 805 and AAR1 is still up and running. I'm not gone forever, I promise. BTW, I still wear my original pirate shirt. Its still holding up ok despite the many washings it has been through.

Well I found myself not being as involved as I was prior here. Also I realized that there was no way I would ever climb the ranks here. I was more involved on another site with a smaller team, and I enjoy helping them accend. We hope to be on the first page by the end of the year. The team here is large, and you guys lossing my little PPD would do little to nothing. I way more involved at the other site, so I fold for them.

Thanks for sharing dicecca! I didn't think your departure was due to ill feelings towards the Team or OCF. We are just a happy bunch here. :)

I had a few of my folding boxes get snagged for actual work use (drat!) so my numbers have taken a huge hit.
I still come here and read just about every day, but a lot of my spare time has been taken up by beta testing games.

Hey guys. I'm still arround here folding, although my capacity is reduced... because the presscott just heats things up so much when its folding.

06-11-07, 11:37 PM
Oh its more me being lazy, having already set up a batch file... one double click opens clients on both cores...
And SMP, (i think) requires a legal copy of windows... and I'm really hesitant to actually install my ONLY legal copy of windows... Yeah, I know... silly phobia for a person who has done dozens of manual windows installations, and hundreds of automated ghosting re-imaging 'installs'. But thats that, I am afraid of using a copy of windows I have already paid for.
Even if I can run it without supporting software directly from MS, there is still the matter of me taking like 30 minutes to figure out what I need to do, click yes/agree a bunch and get it working smoothly.
*Disclaimer* -- I did not 'steal' windows. I got nailed for not keeping track of which volume key went with which volume disk, as in the old days of XP it didn't matter. Then the validation thing came out, and things went to poo from there.

LOL guys... I own a legal copy of XP Pro... but I'm just too lazy to get what i have on there now re-installed and validated.
I have linux SMP ready to go in a spare partition on the E6600, but I need windows for most of my day to day activities... And I killed grub and cant run SMP over night any more.

As soon as I got up to school up here, things got busy, and I didnt have the hours I used to, when I lurked around the boards nearly 7 hours a day :D

Hi guys. thanks for the invite. This is the first time I have logged in since the winter. Life got a little crazy, and I got a little lazy. I'll try to get some folding done soon, but I went from being a full time student to being a full time worker in a day, so I don't have a ton of time. But I will try to find some time to get some. Any new folding thing happen since December? Have they got a windows SMP client yet. It would be nice not to deal with Linux right now. Well, anyway, thanks for remembering I exist.

@mkorpal- as well... excellent to see you. Yes, WinSMP is in the beta effect and is decently stable. Most rigs don't have an issue with it... and it doesn't require a 64-bit version either as does the Linux client. :)

Good news is that I got a raise and moved from a contractor spot to a full time regular employeee of a major Company so I should be able to pick up some folding machines for home soon. (In addition to my e6600)
Congratulations on the new position, DB!!

Been out for a while. Not on the list but I don't mind. Had an old Athlon XP and P3 1Ghz laptop folding full time but electricity bill had crippled me. But I'm back with a new dual core laptop folding whenever I do homework or at school. So I'm back.
btw does anyone know if folding on linux is faster? Reason for asking is that I'm dual booting with Ubuntu and was wondering if folding would be faster on linux.

With lots of 2653's around atm they fold faster on linux than windows ... 20-30% when i last did a comparison.
So linux should produce more on average atm.

Excellent!!! :attn:
I imagine since you're not running your laptop 24x7 that you're also not running SMP at this time, due to deadline constraints... so if you are indeed running a standard uni-proc client then you won't see any appreciable difference in production on Windows vs. Linux.
Great to have you back dkim!!!

New List
If anyone would like to add someone to this list please PM me. :)
Haha, hey guys. Thanks for the PM, harlam. :)
I just built the new rig in my sig, so about to start folding again. I was actually going to post tonight about any tips for the Windows SMP client.
harlam357
01-20-08, 03:34 PM
Hey shadin! No problem... glad to see you're still with us. :)
Just be aware that the WinSMP client requires a network connection... anytime it is interrupted Folding still instantly stop. The client won't visibly stop, but no further progress will be made.
I think this is more a problem with the external / third-party modules (mpiexec, smpd) Stanford uses to mange the multiple core processes.
Good to know. I also noticed that it doesn't seem to save any progress, so it's an all-or-nothing thing? That might hurt since this is a gaming rig, sometimes a reboot just has to happen.
harlam357
01-20-08, 04:08 PM
Yes... the WinSMP client will save progress at the set checkpoint time and on each completed frame. Just be sure to shutdown the client properly (Ctrl-C) before doing that reboot and you'll be fine. :)
Also be aware that the deadlines are very short for SMP WUs, typically 3-4 days. I don't know much about that series, or any series really, of Intel but I imagine if Folding mostly 24x7 you should be able to complete a SMP WU in at least a day- but again, I'm just guessing.
Ah, okay, sweet. The one WU I did this week to test it (I know, one in a week, shameful) finished in just over 24 hours so shouldn't be a problem.

PMSfishy, you go through the pain of an upgrade to an E6450 C2D, or better, and start folding with the new smp client, and I geeeaarrraannttee, you'll feel better about FAH. It just puts a smile on your face to see it work,
I certainly don't understand all the ins and outs of our FAH projects, but we must be doing something right - since FAH started, there have been at least a few other FAH-like projects that have started up.

1. Are you kidding? The people here are great. I have been on the folding team for almost 3 years, and not once has one of my questions gone unanswered. We are almost like a brotherhood here. We do everything we possibly can to help eachother out.
2. I understand that there have been a few of us here that have felt the same way. From what it sounds like to me, a lot of the people have been really aggravated the way the points system has been going. If you take the members that have been folding for this team since day one, starting out at only 1 point per WU, from what I understand it was, and then a points adjustment, and having to borg 10 rigs just to maintain 1000 PPD. Then the SMP client comes out, and now a single computer can put out up to 5 times as much as 10 did just a couple years ago. I can see how this could be frustrating. It is not that one client is more important than the other, but technology is headed in a new direction, and the science needed to follow, to possibly get faster and better results.
It may not be the same as it used to be, but would you be willing to give us another shot?

Yes, I'm sure the landscape has changed... I guess we're not as fun as we used to be. :D That's ok... things change with time, it's inevitable that some will lose interest. We hate it, but it's something we must deal with.
In regards to the direction of the project... I cite deadly's explaination of the points changes that have happened. I know we lost some really dedicated Folders to other projects because they felt like their efforts were being diminished by the advent of the SMP client. I'd like to point out that without their efforts early on we wouldn't be where we are today. No work is insignificant... and we wouldn't have our current structure and clients without those people. Again, the landscape has changed and will change again. It's our duty as a team to continue to adapt and Fold onward and upward!
It's not ALL about the points anyway... Here's to you Team 32!

Hey guys! I'm thrilled that someone took the time to find me. I'm also very embarrassed. Basically I'm in the last term of my college career and I have no time for gaming and computer shenanigans. It's very sad, I know, but it was important to me that I eliminate this distraction. So I parted out my (very nice) rig. Basically, I shoved that money in the bank to make some interest while I don't have time for gaming. Later this term, maybe March, maybe May, I plan on building a new computer. Quad core for sure... folding for sure.
All I can say is I'll be back soon, and I think about OCF and folding every day! Sorry for the long note.

Really not sure why I lost motivation to be honest. Some faces have changed, but honestly cannot say they are any worse then the people before, just a slight different overall mood then before. It was a bit of a disappointment the Folding Mentor program never really took off, but as I was not the leader of the program I really did not feel right trying to make a new site ect. without the consent of the original founder. That combined with the fact that all my local borging hopes really never went through(Was supposed to have a borg starting this year with a about 120 P4 computers but sadly the network they were on was vandalized to a point where basically a complete lockdown of all the computers was put into effect.) and the fact I only have access to a very slow folder just really made the process turn a bit grey to me. Anyway I still check this forum from time to time, even though I don't post much, so I am sure I will eventually be back and hopefully much stronger then before. Until then though cheers too those who have continued to keep motivated and I really do wish you all the best of luck.
Morning all, haven't hit the boards in a while but I'm still here folding away for T32 at a mediocre 2000-2500 ppd. With nearly 600K clocked I'm finally starting to see that first 1 mil marker off in the distance :D... now... ahem... about that free  harlam promised would be here....

If the electricity deal in maine goes through electricity prices will drop, and I'll be able to throw together a few of the new servers i've been planning. I think I may have posted in a way that made it sound differently than I had hoped it to. I do understand that he meant the people and the project are different. Nothing seems to stay exactly the same as time goes on. It just seems to be something inevitable.
The older names that I have heard much about, like Fishy, Wedo (may still be folding or just unchanged client.cfg files from the one click), flix, RW and many of the other leaders from the past really helped build this team. Too see the amount of points and WU's these people had put out without SMP, GPU and PS3 clients is really amazing and shows dedication that I wish we all had.
Hey guys, havent been folding for a while as most corp environments I work in wont allow it anymore. Beyond that I've grown rather power conscious in the last few years. Since I've just recently acquired a new Radeon 4850 I may put it to work for a while to test how it goes.
Great you found Silver, I can remember once upon a time we were neck and neck for months then he upgraded and pulled ahead....
Just checked my stats and I'm absolutely amazed. It would appear that I've still got some systems somewhere out there folding. Its amazing that they're still running after all this time.

lol, I love my evil smiley tennis ball..... For whatever reason I always thought it amusing/funny. My weird sense of humor I guess. :screwy:
Does GPU folding really perform that much better than folding on CPU alone?

Yep, you can get nearly 5K PPD from an 8800 GT 256M card. With some of the newest cards you can get 8K PPD.

Wicked, will do so sometime. Just have to try get my cards temps down. It always seems to be sitting at 82 degrees C...... A little worries about having it folding at those temps, if only I could find a dual slot cooler! :bang head

Found. Lost all computers in a flood. Moved out, owe someone some cash, but I'm around here somewhere. I may begin folding again once winter hits, lower bills for me that time of year.

Bump!
The team needs all the help we can get!
Just a little update. I'm currently unemployed so I'm not able to fold but on a couple of machines. I've killed off the client on my machines at home but I have a couple going at my parents. If I find that my power bill doesn't drop a bit, I may start it up again anyhow. Otherwise I'll be on hiatus for a few months.
Edit: It seems to have saved me $20 total... I'm not sure it's totally worth it.

Hi there.
Computer's in bits an awaiting parts to get it going again, but may get back into folding once this is all sorted. It's a 3.6 Ghz single core though so i have no idea what it can do...

not dead, not folding and very busy
Our "fighting" moderator - yep, WarriorII, is back, and has asked me to post this up.
I suppose we'll have to behave ourselves, now! No?
Would you believe we'll behave ourselves Monday through Friday, then?
Would you believe we'll behave ourselves between Monday at 0500 hours through 0501 hours, because we're still sleeping?
:D :D :D
Welcome back, Warrior!

I have noticed that Shiggity has been MIA lately. Both in the Folding Forum and on EOC. I think getting this going again would be a good thing. Maybe we can get some of the old team back together.

Yeah, it's been on my long term to do list for a while now... I've just got too many other things going on that I've considered asking someone else to take it over. I have a slew of old PMs from the previous rounds I've done on this... I looked at them the other day and most of those names on those PMs would qualify for a "Lost & Found" PM again.
Anyone interested in taking this over? I'll send you the list of names I've PM'd in the past. Otherwise, the big thing here is the time it takes to identify old "lost" members and then put together the PMs to those folks... in the past I've browsed EOC stats... looking for inactive names I recognized... or looked through my thread history for names I recognized. Again it can be time consuming... and I just haven't "manufactured" the time to do anything with this.
