I've still got my trusty 7800GT and running the newest drivers, but I know that the most recent drivers are going to be designed for the cards they're releasing NOW.

nvidia is not like ATi where depending n what .00002 revision you have, you get a big boost in performance. Nvidia has the universal driver architecture depending on what series, ex:

xx driver for 7 series
xxx driver for 8 series

You should do fine with the most current drivers for your 7-series card.
