Looks like pretty crummy performance for a high end rig, I don't see that much of a difference but it is a Patch for a game that's been out for a year.

the graphical differences look exactly like the original Halflife 2 screenshots and previews that had DX8 vs 9 i swear....
Only thing that changed was the water a tiny bit imo. I'm sure better thing will come though.

Looks as though the lighting is more accurate but that's about it. They shouldn't have bothered to be honest, it certainly doesn't look as though it's worth the performance penalty.

Guys... You REALLY can't judge the difference from a still picture. You have to see the game in motion.

redrummy way to step up to the plate and offer up a lot of goodies. I think if your gonna nit-pick graphics a screenshot is exactly where you want to do it....usually when the game is in motion the differences are less noticable,...with the exception of physics.

Know of any video comparisons lying around then? Or could you get friendly with Fraps on behalf of us that don't have DX10 setups?

the only thing i notice in that game from dx9 to dx10 is the lighting. the lighting looks better imo in dx10. one other thing i noticed is when the 2 guys are walking the river in dx10 you can see the reflections of the stars where as in dx9 you dont.

Performance wise, I'd guess that the X2 4400+ @2.2 would be holding it back a little bit. I'm not exactly sure why a site reviewing a game would use an AMD @2.2 and an 8800GTX.

Nabbed the game from a friend for a few days to try the DX10 out, as well hes curious about it.
Got to say didn't look at DX9 but it doesn't preform horribly, not the best on my card but it works. Just ran through there benchmark that they had in game and with everything HIGH or Ultra, with 2x AA and 1920x1200... Sorry don't have the numbers in front of me so I don't exactly remember what the decimals was.
Min 6.7, Avg 21.3, Max 40.6 Not bad at my default clock IMO. My rig was running 3Ghz as well. I'd have to run DX9 to get a base point and comparison between the 2 DX modes. But from the looks of it just jumping into a game quick its totally playable, just up my GPU speed a bit and surely it will be nicer.
What was suppositly improved was lighting and shadows for sure from what people/reviews have said.

DX9, DX10. Come on, how much difference in graphic can a simple update of Dirext X do? We are not talking about a hardware update.
actually id almost say dx10 upgrade is when games are becomming more/close to life-like in terms of graphics. we just havent seen the full potential of dx10. just wait
oh and proof for my last post. AMAZING LOOK AND READ THIS FOLKS<

Um it is a hardware update.
DX10 is suppose to lighten the load off the CPU and become more uniformed between nVidia and ATI in terms of programing for games so really its easier for the developers to use. As said in CPU its suppose to give a minor gain of stripping some of the processes from it giving more power to the game itself for other tasks that need more power.

Can't totally go off that, its old since its still saying DX9L is suppose to be XP's version of DX10 which it isn't. Its DX9 for Longhorn, aka Vista.

Actually... we are. DX10 graphics card (G80, R600) vs. DX9 (the rest of you.)

New cardsseries have system upgrades all the time. Nothing particullar to brag about when that is implemented. But when it comes to Microsoft they make us have all eye's on it.
No noble price vote for DX10 from my side.

Still sayings that theres no difference between DX10 and DX9 though is wrong. As well when new cards come out everyone brags about it.
While DX10 might not be a worthy choice right now really theres CoH that has it CoJ will have it shortly, FSX will get it sometime, Crysis, Bioshock, AlanWake, UT3, and many others will be switching to it. Developers love DX10 right now because of the programing ease so we'll be seeing more of it, surely though thats not going to whip out DX9 anytime soon.

Well there are physical differences is what I'm saying. DX10 supports Shader Model 4.0... DX9 does not. Therefore DX10 Graphics cards support Shader Model 4.0 and DX9 graphics cards don't. And that's just ONE difference. It isn't just a driver we're talking about. There's an actual, physical, REAL difference between DX9 and DX10 cards.

What about future OpenGL versions, for Linux and pre-Windows Vista?
wow its been a while since I come here, well on the comparisons I can say I don't notice much except the obvious emm lightning, placement of fog and water and I must say, well this is a DX9 Engine with some DX10 flavor mmm not enough, you will see real DX10 when this games with DX10 engines come out.
And thanks for the pics. =D
