ram prices are pretty crazy right now, with the 8800's coming down slowly as well - this is like "the time" to buy and build.

...with the 8800's coming down slowly...
The 640MB 8800's jumped back up. I was lucky enough to catch the deals about two weeks ago. I was waiting for them to drop below $300, but the only place that did was Buy.com (with a coupon + MIR)...and then they went up again. There was a post for a 320MB for $260.

I bought these exact chips a couple of days ago, right before they dropped another $2 to $81.99 8(. I don't have my CPU yet though, so I will have to wait a few days to see if it was money well spent. From the reviews I've read, though, most will do a max of 890-920 Mhz, which isn't a bad OC for inexpensive RAM.

f you have a DDR2 board and dont have at least 2gigs...there's NO excuse.

this is nuts.

Concurred! The deals are far too good to limit oneself to 1GB or less. My DDR board has only 1GB, but that is only because DDR will not come down in price and I have not switched to a new processor.

well now it's $80.99... :)

what chips does this ram use anyway?

The link is to DDR2 RAM, not DDR RAM.

most likely i think its called powermos or similar. some have been known to clock well on a great pcb. buffalo sticks had the good pcb and clocked to around 450, or 900 efectively from what i saw.

LOL.... i didn't even notice he did that.

well, there is no ddr800 anyway... the fastest ddr was 600 i believe.

I have a spare P4 sitting around that I can use while I wait for my E4300. I can test this RAM and let you all know how it performs and what the max OC/timings I can get is. How do I tell which memory chips it has without voiding any warranties? And what is the max voltage you guys would recommend using on this RAM that won't shorten its lifespan? I'm using mid range air cooling, nothing fancy, and nothing more than the stock red heat dissipating things that came on this RAM and no fans pointed directly at the RAM.

System:
Gigabyte p965 DS3- rev 1.3
G. Skill 2 GB RAM (one on the link above)
Waiting on the E4300, using an LGA775 P4 630 in the mean time.

Heh, I thought it was assumed when it says DDR800 :p

I just got these in the mail yesterday for my buddy, they are nice and purty. The heat speaders feel a little thin, but there is a good ammount of thermalpad underneat it to absorb most of the heat I assume. They booted up fine in an ASROCK 4Core-DualVSTA.

Hey, Just an update. I was able to get this RAM to DDR2-860 and be have no errors in memtest at +2V (2.0V) at their 5-5-5-15 stock timings. If i try to go bump the Voltage to +.3 (2.1v) and up the FSB 5 Mhz making the RAM run at DDR2-880, I crash getting into windows. Doesn't sound like it's uber-overclockable, but will definitely work just fine with my E4300. I still don't know how to tell which memory chips the sticks have. I'm happy enough for it being so inexpensive and being perfectly compatable with the Gigabyte P965 DS3.

One reviewer on newegg wrote he was able to get the timings to 4-4-4-12 @ 2.08v

"runs at 800mhz 5-5-5-15 out of the box at stock settings, runs at 800mhz 4-4-4-12 at 2.08v orthos stable for 7+ hours "
