So if you've seen my other posts...

Pentium D 820, stock cooler, ASROCKS 775i65G, 2x512 MB Samsung DDR400

My Understanding is that the Multiplier on the D820 is locked. Therefore my only options are to increase the FSB?? Correct??

Under that premise I've got the FSB in the BIOS up to 215 Mhz or 3.010 GHz (default is 2.8 Ghz).

The screen shot is with Orthos running on CPU stress for about 7 Min. Heat looks to have leveled off.

Now this rig has the protection thing enabled where it will cycle down. Now would I see that in the heat graph or if I see a drop in the voltage graph I know I am running too hot?

I have done nothing but increase the FSB from 200 to 215. Seemed easy enough... My question is, besides crashing and blue screen how do I know from the instrumentation monitor that I am reaching the threshold of my config?

I haven't touched voltage ... it is set to auto .. does that mean it will draw more if require or means that it is set to default? I'm certain with more cooling I can drive this up further (stock cooler). But I don't know when to start backing off... Seeing that graph, does that concern you?

What process do you guys follow when tweaking it up?

I would suggest reading one of the stickies on Overclocking that they have here. And maybe elsewhere. Also google your board to see what others have done and how. Read and read some more. Which it seems you may have done already. This is what i did and it has helped me a bunch in my adventures.

The general notion i think is to set your default voltages manually as auto has the potential to over volt IIRC. The main things to look for are system stability (test memory, run orthos etc.) and keeping your temps in check and your voltages within spec +/- a bit. There sre many things that come into play as far as reaching your threshold.

I got really lucky with a PC i got from a friend and got (what i now know to be) decent results my when i messed with it. The next one i built had a potentially good chip but got held back in other areas.:bang head Again search around and see what you come up with. Hopefully some one more knowledgeable than i will see this and give you better answers. Good luck!
