(Stolen from XS and just a continuation of HousERat's and others' threads.)

These Crucial deals just keep rolling on but time is running out as this particular deal ends tomorrow, June 8th...of course, on the 9th they may very well start another, which is what happened on May 19th, when the previous deal expired on May 18th and they started this current rebate the very next day. I get the feeling that they are trying to make way for Crucials' next offering, but that's fine by me. :D

In any event, if you want well-binned Micron D9GMH, straight from the source, for not much more than value ram pricing, here is your chance ($165 + $5 S/H = $170 less $85 MIR for a net of $85).

Just saw yours. No problem...we can just let this one end right here and keep yours going...the main thing is to let the guys know about it.

By the way...I'm in, too. I couldn't pass it up at those prices...just to have a spare in case one set cooks. :D

Interesting, this is a different rebate than the tracer (but in the same amount). Different pdf numbers, different offer number too. Looks like an opportunity to me :)

As you pointed out, the Tracers are a different part # therefore both should be eligible for rebates.

I was hoping the Tracers price would come down along with the regular Ballistix, but no such luck. Soon perhaps, I'll be keeping my eye out tonight.

Deal is short, don't think too long or they will be either sold out (happened to me last time) or the rebate will expire.

As soon as I saw the Ballistix that low, I pounced on them.

I'm trying so hard to not jump on this, but the rebate would probably get here just in time for me to buy textbooks in August (maybe)

Oh my god. I want these, but I have no need for them...

I have no "need" for them, so I justified it as follows:

Based on what I'm reading, ram prices are depressed at this time and manufacturers are currently selling the stuff at below cost. OEM builders like DELL are stocking up at these low prices in anticipation of them going up around Sept-Dec when school starts back up and Holiday shopping kicks in. Prices are expected to firm up at that time and creep back up.

In addition, new products are forthcoming and therefore I believe that Crucial is attempting to help its resellers clear out their current inventory to make way for the newer stuff (default speed is 1066).

What this means is that in all likelyhood, this ram that ends up costing you $85 will be able to be sold, if needed, for at least the same, if not more, within the next 3-6 months.

Bottom line is that you can play with it, then sell it, without incurring much, if any loss...perhaps even sell it at a profit later on. At least that is what I've told myself.

That's my story...and I'm sticking to it. :D

too bad your rebate has to be postmarked by tommorow. so if you can get it shipped overnight and arrive tommorow before the post office closes, then postmark it... good deal i guess. this is what the actual rebate is saying.

id rather spend what 25$ more from the rebate price and get the gskill. MIR sometimes have a tendency to take a lil longer than 8-10 weeks.

06-07-07, 09:17 PM
actually rebate has to be postmarked by 7/8/07, oh and these tend to do around 600 4-4-4-8, at least mine do with 2.4v :D

To confirm what toddm27 posted (I printed and read the rebate form), the purchase must be made by June 8th, but the rebate just needs to be postmarked (not received), by July 8th so you have a 30-day window if purchased tomorrow.

Damn! Should I risk again?
I've already got 3 other pairs of Ballistix, all different, with different department codes for each rebate. One already from Newegg, the other two from buy.com.
One member has told me that it should go through as long as those department numbers are different. But that wording they have in the rebate is somewhat shaky. This deal is totally awesome if I actually get the rebate given I will submit multiple rebates.
Any opinions?

I'm in the same boat, just submitted for a 75 mir, debating whether to pull the trigger on these

Same here.

I've read it several times and the rebates are either for different products (Tracers or non-Tracers) or different dates and amounts so they are not the same.

If Crucial doesn't pay up, then I'll go back to the egg and request it from them. They have paid me valid rebates in the past when the manufacturer erroneously balked.

Was it the 10 billion gigs I bought that's getting to your head? :)

I'm up to I think 24gigs total now, but I sold 9 gigs already.

Crucial better not think they're gonna screw me outa my rebates, or I really will never shop them again... though, I don't think they'll screw us. The only thing is, I hope they don't go bankrupt before mailing my checks. :)

I've got the 8000 tracers, the 8500 non-tracer ballistix, and the 6400 ballistix under my name, and under my gf's... that's 6 rebates!!

Not to mention the few I have with PQI, the few with Kingston, and the one with PDP...

Keep an eye on the Tracers...wouldn't surprise me one bit if they suddenly drop in price.

It is evident that the Egg and Crucial are really trying to clear these out.

anybody have any idea what they have in store to replace them?

This is simply an effort to reduce large inventories that were caused by manufacturers ramping up production to meet a projected demand that was to have been caused by the masses converting to Vista. The demand was not realized, vista sales are below expectations.

I don't think that's the case at all. While MS has some pull, by no means does a new OS release dictate the memory chip market. It's a volatile industry with lots of dirty secrets and handshake agreements on supply and pricing. Memory manufacturers simply have too much stock on hand.

These chips are relatively cheap right now, and some collusion among chip manufacturers has been lost in recent months. What you're seeing is pricing based on supply and demand, versus artificially high prices dictated by a cartel (I use that term loosely here).

We do not disagree. There is currently a ram surplus, thus supply exceeds demand at normal prices. Thus prices drop to eliminate the surplus.

My belief is that the surplus is caused by XP owners not upgrading to vista which would have required the average computer to either be replaced or have the hardware upgraded. This is one source of the low demand relative to the supply. Although back door dealings between companies is certainly another potential cause of this issue.

Either way, the consumer is the winner today.

Once you guys get sick of (or have sets to get rid of)... I am after 2 x sets of the 8500 Tracers.

The memory industry released the report about expected demand. Vista sales were predicted to cause a sharp increase in demand. The only other push may have been caused by the release of DDR3 chipsets but that is still only a small effect as only a few boards are showing up and AMD is a year from DDR3. There has also been a slump in PC sales not bad but enough to cause some surpluses.
