I like the way things are looking. I don't think these things are going to be cheap though ;). 24mb l2 cache (12 per chip) lol

Well, it's beats the crap out of everything.

Bad part is almost nothing uses 8 cores, let alone 2. Come on! We got the hardware, we need the software!

I wonder how much Penryns are going to cost. I really hope K10 is competitive to keep the heat on.

No kidding. I don't want Intel alone to rule the market...that means bad news for the average shopper. However, "Jesus Zombie Loving Christ" that's a lot of processing power.

I have about 6 programs that will use a heck of a lot more than 8 cores if I had that many :) These cpu's aren't intended for the average guy.

Hmm...I wonder if 8 cores could sustain a chain reaction. Einstein would be proud.

I grew up in Penryn, CA the little town the Intel Penryn is named after :) Pretty cool since it's just a blip on the radar between Sacramento and Reno, NV. Think it has anything to do with Intel having a design faclity in Folsom, CA(about 20 miles away)?

keep in mind that system had 16Gb of ram to play with! What would it do on 4Gb i wonder...

end of Q3, thats all we know.

I think it got changed a bit, production may start in late Q3 but last I heard 'general availability' would be late Q4/Q1.

If that isn't enough, Intel said that the last line for their processors is upgrading to conroe.
Thats the Xeon 7xxx line, which, with 4 sockets, can hold up to 16 cores.
and 128gb of RAM.
Imagine doing anything on them...
Folding
Gaming
Know all they have to do is multithread games for 4, 8 and 16 cores....

I thought penryn came out in july filling in the lineup at the same time as another round of price drops on the existing chips?
