Ok, I think this is about as cheap as it gets on newegg. I am not trying to go super crazy Qx+p5k+4gigs just yet. I just wanna get my feet wet with some intel and see if I like the waters.
Anyway, is this even worth it? Will I see a huge gain from my current setup? What would it OC to on water? Should I probably not go so cheap on some parts?

No, it's not worth upgrading if you are just going low budget like that.

that board is not good for ocing, so no it wouldnt be worth it. the E2xxx's right now are hitting around 3-3.2ghz. for 84 you really cant complain for a oc like that. i would hold off and just wait! though buy the ddr2 now while its cheap, once they start pushin ddr3. ddr2 will go back up and stay up.

for the rest of P35 motherboards to come out pushing P965 down in price.
P35's are out.
Well maybe I should change my thread a bit. What setup should I look at getting that will be worth while for upgrading? I don't mind spending more, I just want to spend as little as possible.

p35 is out yes but not all mobo makers have there boards on the market.
the setup i would do if doing it now would be
E6420
either IP35-pro or P5K-DLX
gskill 2GPK's
Sorry, just re-read your last post. Missed the word rest.
I think I will have to wait just a bit more. The set you recommended is pretty much double what I was thinking to get.

as well it would be longer lasting and basicly what you are after in the long run. either bite the bullet or dont. your setup is fine for a while.

If you're a gamer I'd go for broke. I built mine some months ago: E6600, P5B Dlx, 2 x 1GB G.Skill DDR2 800, SS Zeus 750w, EVGA 8800GTX. Now it isnt OC'd yet. My fps in the lost planet demo werent so great with settings at max. I was thinking WC but instead I ordered a Tuniq and an X-Fi b/c if I OC it and still cant get the performance I want at the settings I want then I'll scrap and get a Q6600 an SLI board and another 8800 GTX with WC and see if that does it for me.
You can see I may have already spent more money then I needed to by not just going all out in the first place. Like Evilsizer said, either bite it or dont.
About the cheapest I can recommend is about $300 for CPU/mobo/RAM, but you'll need a decent PSU too.

Ok, I understand the need to get good memory and mobo. Intels seem to really need good mobos to clock well. I really don't want to hit an early OC wall cuz of a cheap mobo. But I just saw a thread with someone hiting 3.6 on a 2160. To me that is great. Like I said, I am just trying to get my feet wet. Hell, if I hit 3gig Ill be one happy clam. I am not looking to join the 4 and 5 gig club just yet and from I have been reading, getting in the high 3's is almost useless for practical use.
