I came to this board when prompted by my friend will (same posting name I think). Anyhow, I've been lurking for awhile, and have decided to post now.

Just wondering what the major differences are between the Tbird's and new breed MP's. In all honesty, I'm happy with my cheap 1.2 ghz 200 fsb tbird; I'm not sure why anybody would want to shell out a noticeable amount of money for the same speed on an updated processor...I dunno, kinda rambling, any thoughts? Is there noticeable performance differences, or is it mostly hype at this point with applications and games not finding much use for the faster yet?

Welcome to the Forums !!!

the main difference between tbirds and MPs is that MP use the Palomino core, while the other uses the thunderbird core. The palomino has added features and is running cooler than the TBirds, so they can hit higher speeds, while using less voltage. the MP has new instructions, as the entire Intel SSE, called 3DNOW Professional I think. other than that, both are pretty much the same. except that MPs of same speed as tbirds have a better performance, and cost more ! Plus, MPs are certified to run in multi-cpu mode, even if tbirds, xps and durons will also work

heh, yeah, different Will...i told his ass to post here ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome - one thing I've noticed is these forums are really cool with each other - no hostility and the like, and I like that :)

As for your explanation - sounds good, but I'm a cheap ******* who goes with what'll work good for the least cash ;)
