After going to the expense of upgrading from 7800, I have found out that none of the current drivers for the 8800 series support overscan/ display resizing. It really s***s in that in most games it just trims off enough of the hud to screw it up. Not to mention the havoc it creates trying to use your desktop. I guess I'm really stoopid to assume utilities included in the drivers would actually work. I've tried the 158.22's, 160.02 and 160.03beta and in none of the driver sets would the overscan option work. The create custom resolution panel also refused to function as I tried several known HTPC res's, 1776 x 1000, 1600 x 900, and it' wouldn't take any of them. In fact I had to create the 1980 x 1080 to have it as an option. In addition it read my display as 1280 x 1024 and I know it's a true 1980 x 1080 pixel count. I had no such issues with the 7800 driver sets.

Anyway, email your nvidia provider and bitch. (nVidia's customer support page is "under construction.")

Here's a partial list of manufacturers. Stand up and be heard!

BFG (http://www2.bfgtech.com/contactts.aspx)

EVGA (http://www.evga.com/support/getSupport/)

This is a start.

PS. Other than that, this card rocks.

Which drivers? I googled the issue and came up with numerous hits on this issue. I think it's limited to the GTX. I'll take any help you give me.

and yes, I removed all drivers between installations.

The issue seems to be limited to DVI connections. Supposed to work through component fine.

Which means no good because I'm already out of component inputs.

You should just try VGA. Each 8800 series card comes with two DVI to VGA adapters. Put one on your GTX and the other on your TV and connect them with a regular VGA cable.

I did it with my 7800GTX over DVI for almost 2 years.

VGA will limit your options. I just checked and do have component available. Is that a sure thing and is image quality comparable to DVI?

I'm able to resize on my eVga 8800gts when running dvi/hdmi. I'm doing it with Vista and the 160.03 beta drivers. After resizing I'm still running a perfect 1920 x 1080 res.

I'm stuck with xp and tried those drivers. I have tried the component hook up and it does work. Color looks good but not quite the sharpness of the DVI. I left the other cable in place but unhooked so I can try other drivers as they come out.
Hooked up the component dongle and cabled to an input on the display. First time up allowed me to resize( surprisingly when it booted, the resizing I had done earlier to no effect via DVI was in effect !?) and the utility worked fine.
Thanks for the input guys.

Not so sure I'm sold on the clarity of the component vs. DVI connection. Especially on print. I ran FarCry, Oblivion, and NWN2 last evening and all looked fairly good. I still miss the clarity the DVI connection had but I'm willing to trade off, hopefully temporarliy, for the full screen access.

Thanks again for all your inputs.

Thanks again for all your inputs.I'd love to try DVI to a bigscreen...:D We just have an older rear projection 1080i...

Yeah, I never had a prob with my 7800 either. I'll keep checking. There's a thread on nZone (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=33876) so I'll keep an eye on developments.
An unless you've gone DVI to a big screen, you got no idea what you're missing.:bday:
