Makes sense to me and since it's not coming from Jack(ass) Tretton it is believable that the 2 major sticking points are the lawsuit and the battery. The lawsuit is resolved and if you look at the 360 controller (which rumbles) battery back which is large and nearly as heave as the SixAxis itself then it makes sense that they'd need to do a serious battery upgrade.
But . . . But . . . But rumble is like, sooooooooooooooooo last gen (http://www.destructoid.com/sony-says-rumble-is-so-last-gen-30080.phtml)! People don't want rumble!

It's good that the option of rumble is still out there. It's bad for any current PS3 owner, as they'll have to purchase different controllers to take advantage of any future rumble feature.
This is a good move, but they really have their foot in their mouth for swearing that people cared more about motion tilt and not rumble [see Oni's link].

Truthful, I don't really care about the rumble

Rumble was announced back at the same time Home was. Phil Harrison in an interview basically said they had been going through some legal issues with Immersion, and as he works for Sony he could not just go around and say their controllers suck. Anyway I hope they fix the battery issues soon, I know a lot of people have been wanting a vibrating controller.
Rumble is something I've always kind of enjoyed. Ever since Starfox 64 when it was first introduced (with that huge, clunky box that stuck in the N64 controller). I missed it with my Wavebird, but was glad to have it back w/ the Wiimote.
I guess Sony's finally going to jump back on the rumble bandwagon, even after all they've said. The downside is that most people will have to purchase a new Sixaxis to get it. Oh well, more money for Sony, I guess.

I like it in the wiimote, but I hated it in the PS1 DS/PS2 controller. I think it is something that works well with a motion sensor controller.

Really though! How good is starfox 64?! I played that game to death.
Rumble feature can enhance a game no doubt. I particularly like the feature in racing games so i can feel bump and the curb and im shocked the ps3 does not already feature it as standard,i was under the impression it did.
Rumble has always been a nice subtle tactile feedback to the game, makes it seem just a bit more lively. For instance I have a PS2 controller that has broken rumble, so I have to turn it off in all games. But recently I bought a new one, and now God of War 2 feels much more energetic and exciting. That and you just cant say no to a vibrator.

Another   from me for rumble.
Dont care what anyone says, it is more immersive and adds a nice touch to gaming.

They removed it from the Sixaxis controller due to a patent dispute. They've since settled this dispute and are not working on putting it back in.
I honestly don't know how they'll fit it in there, but I'm sure they'll find a way. The Sixaxis controller doesn't have a lot of internal real estate. The battery alone is absolutely HUGE!
Well for 30 hours of battery life I would expect it to be. I think I've gotten more though.
The thing is too light :/

I will agree it is to light. Battery wise though I would not mind at all if say 10 or so hours were cut out of the controller, as right now it can go a pretty long time.

It is to be released sometime in October. However, apparently when it is launched it will still be pretty far in its infancy and Sony will just continue to add in other features they did not have time to implement from the start.
