I am playing around with OCing my x1950xt 256MB for the first successful time outside of CCC.
This is what I have done so far.
Disable External event utility and ATI smart.
Disable CLIstart.exe in startup
Install ATiTool .27 beta 1
(oh running cat 7.5 x64 drivers)
Now 2 problems.
1) created a 2d and a 3d profile. but voltage changes dont get saved between them :S im not in vista so its not a UAC error...
2) Find max... my CCC max was 688/920 my new max (crash level have not determined stable yet) is 718/1028
ATiTool has lots of V controls...
1.425 is stock 3d speed vcore (1.486 is the stock VDDIC which the description says is related to core voltage).
Mem volts i am not sure of I went to 2.18 on both of the sliders... cuz well 2.08 is 2d ... and I know it wasnt that high.
I dont want to fry the card.. I a mon stock cooling with and AC 92mm case fan blowing across the VRM.
What is the right voltages to set?
( I checked the 1900 database...2d timings on mem... doesnt make much sense for such great OCs... )
Stock 2d volts

Anyhelp is appreciated
EDIT: Oh I tried running at 698/999 in 3d06 and guess the driver crashed cuz I score 1000pts lower then stock :( (stock is 5846 on a 2GHz conroe with 1GB of 680MHz DDR2)

When I was messing around with it, I could get it up to over 700 pretty easily, and it felt like the PWM chips right next to the red bar heatsink were overheating and taking the card out with them, though I never found out for sure (was going to stick some small heatsinks on them, I really think it would help). The way it crashed felt like something specific on there wasn't getting enough cooling and was failing the card, because my load temps weren't even clearing 60C when the comp would lose video or crash.
I don't think touching the memory volts is really necessary in general, though.
The card could run at 688/201x fine all day at stock volts. I also found the card could run fine at 650/2000 at 1.3v vcore 3d mode, which I started to do in the long run for less heat/power... with an HR-03, around 40C idle and 52C load.
Someone at XS had a short 5-line chart of the max stable overclocks they achieved at given vcore voltages, which give you a decent idea of what the cards do on air.

Wish that worked for me.. all that did is make me more unstable :(
Uninstalled ATiTool and reactivated all the generic aTi stuff. Will just reinstall atitool and check volts after running in 3dmode.
rerunning 3dmark06 in just CCC stock GPU 2GHz e6300 again.
EDIT: ok with atitool gone and everything back at stock on vcard..
I get 1000 points higher then I do with an overclocked card WTF? ( I even tried a tiny little overclock so its not a "not stable" issue" cuz as I said I can run 688/945 in CCC, oh yah found my max mem in CCC screenie earlier ;) )

i have ati drivers with the old school control panel installed, alongside ati tray tools...i use overdrive 3, and overclock the overdrive settings
so i still have 2d and 3d clocks....

cool
I have no idea what you said after drivers and control panel though...
I guess my question is now.. .why can I touch 6k at stock but when I overclock with any other prgoram even if they are 3d stable...
MY scores drop 1000 points?
Whatever the answer is... i know now that my scoring 6k isnt unusual its that everyone else tried using ATiTool and thats why they score so low...
(Please dont say ineed to use riva... :( I will stick with CC before I do that)

ATI Tray Tools (http://www.guru3d.com/article/atitraytools/189/)
thats the program i use to overclock the overdrive function of the ati drivers

I started with that (i prefer RA tray tools to ati tool) but didnt know about hte disabling ATI services...
I will try again.. I thought i might have corrupted the HDD so I am trying a fresh x64 install and going from there :)

i didnt disable the services...just like its normal ati install with overdrive enabled

Well no that doesnt work for me.. Cant just install it and runn it. It reads 2D clcoks and any overclocking starts at 2D however when you jump to 3d the ATT doesnt change numbers,,,
So please describe EXACTLY what you do because the general consesus on the interent is that we 1950xt256mbers got ****ed...
EDIT oh yah whats your 3dmark06 score BTW?

dont know about 06...but my best 05 is 12289
edit* 06=6293 so far
in the latest versions of ati tray tools, ray has included overdrive overclocking... same basic notion as CCC overdrive, but with more control and less bloat...you can go beyond what CCC overdrive defaults to. right now im running 710/2000...will be upping it back to 730 soon....i just need to cool off the vrms and i need better ramsinks on my memory

Okay. I reinstalled x64 last night cause I noticed some driver corruption issues. So getting all the drivers etc straightened away now.
Been reading the ATT forum problem section too so hopefully I should breeze right through this time :)
(EDIT: Does .NET always seem like it takes 3 days to install or is just impatient me?)

lol.. ya while .net is installing, you might as well go make a sandwich, finish reading war n peace, and take up a new hobby

Well I am going to try and do everything manually again. There is no way to have fan control in ATT without losing 3d.
(As soon as you click on "overclocking" to change fan speed, the hotkeypoller gets switched off. Which means no 3d mode :( )
I leave the prompt up and always select no for disabling hot key poller. But it just doesnt want to play nice with me :(

Well I just put the little bestie to sleep for a nhour.. give that AS5 time to cool and set before I put some more hurtin on it later :)
Finally getting the hang of this ocing x1950 thing, going to try adjusting the timings a little later see if I can get that 2000 memspeed up. Although im seriously thinking that I need to upgrade the cooling. I ran it at 100% fan speed and was still running 73C load temps...
But I finally broke 6,000
Once my motherboard gets here on tuesday i will start working on the e6300 and DDR2 1066 :) See what kind love I can get from that stuff (Right now the PC is running 666MHz divider (whatever that boils down to.. 4:5? Doesnt matter what I set it too it defaults to 666, but im running it 4-4-3-10
CPU clocked to 2 Ghz only (crappy board) im pretty sure this card is CPU bottle necked.. as at stock clocks (vcard clocks) I was getting between 5650 and 5850..
Anyway proof is in the puddin

Whee (oh yah notice the test results from the run right before this one... SM2 score N/a???? dunno how that happened but it crushed my score to under 4k)
