guys, I need some help, my e4300 stopped working today :( out of nowhere, I was booting the pc and suddenly it shut down :(
at first I thought it was the psu, then the mobo, then the vcard, but it is the cpu and that makes no sense to me, I just dont understand this, I mean since when do cpus just stop working for no reason  it used to be heat or vcore, but out of nowhere

btw the specs:
mobo p5b
cpu e4300 at 2.5 with stock vcore
cooling u90 with 92mm 53cfm zalman, temps never went over 50C at full load
ram 2gb gskill 6400 @ 900something
vcard 6800 at stock
couple hard drives
one fdd and one dvdrw
psu antec true control 550 II (adjusted to fit each rail)

how do you know it's the cpu? could be the mobo too perhaps?

do you have another board you could try it on?

Wow.... that really sucks. Such a great chip too. You weren't even pumping insane voltage into it or anything (like 1.6v+)?

i wouldn't give up on it yet. there have been a few times where i couldn't get my rig to post (once i couldn't get it to post for a couple of days), resetting the bios hundreds of times, but persistence and stubbornness paid off, and i finally got it to boot.

if your cpu truly is dead, it would be the very first C2D i've heard of dying in this fashion. you could probably send the cpu to any number of trusted members to test for you. i would volunteer, but being in Canada usually means shipping is a pain.

Just use your warranty and send it to Intel for a new one. The only bad thing is you might have to wait awhile.

this may be an early indication of lower quality from intel as newer batches may not be any good at all...

what is your batch number?
week?

Kinda jumping to conclusions there, aren't you?

One cpu failure is hardly indicative of "an indication of lower quality from intel".

RMA time... sorry to hear about your chip bud :(

As far as the time thats going to take, find a shop you trust that is an Intel Product Dealer ( IPD, you have to be set up with intel for that ) IPDs get advanced part replacement, which Intel foots the bill on shipping the new part out overnight.

We've had dead boards at our shop, and have had boards the next day even if processing the RMA at 7 or 8 at night... they are very good.

i had to rma a cpu once to intel. i sent it in by UPSP after they got the cpu then sent one to me 2day fedex service or overnight. i know it was one of those 2 but its been so long ago.
